What Are Woven Wood Blinds?

By Sara Watkins

You have likely heard of woven wood blinds, but chances are you have never used them and you might not have ever seen them either. This is a shame, since these blinds are universal and can fit into just about any type of room decor, and their earthy tones work well with any colors you may have in your home.

They are a stylish but subtle alternative to the traditional window blind, but the best part is what they are made of. These days, the majority of the ones you see on store shelves are 100% natural, so no plastics at all. Most of the ones you can find will be made of materials such as bamboo or reeds, though some are made from specific types of grass. You can also find woven wood blinds in just about any color or thickness that you want, so you can find some that are as dark, light, or as colorful as you want.

Usually, woven blinds that are made of wood are made with relatively thin wood fibers that are sewn together. You can find more than that on store shelves today, many of which are thin and actually look like fabric. If you want, you can also find styles that are thicker than the norm. These kinds block out more sun light from the room and they are a bit more exotic-looking than those that are lighter. The thicker varieties usually cost more, but the fact that they block out a good amount of light is a selling point for many. Neither is better, your likes and dislikes should determine which you get.

In most cases, woven wood blinds are more expensive than plastic varieties. Real woven blinds are not made of plastic. High-end woven blinds are often hand-made as well, which does raise the price due to the fact that the human factor makes each one unique in its own right.

You can find these blinds at most stores that sell interior design supplies, but if you are working on a budget you might want to see what the internet has to offer you. There are more designs, styles, and colors of these blinds than you would have ever expected before and being able to shop online gives you a huge range of prices to look into.

If you are looking for that wood blind look but not the price, there are faux wood blinds available at many retailers as well. If you actually pay attention, you might actually discover that the ones sold in many stores are not real either. Though they are not technically real wood, they do look the part. They will also not get damaged by humidity or extreme heat as easily as real wood either.

No matter which type you decide on, the choices for real woven wood blinds or faux styles is huge. Don't let what is traditionally considered to be a woven blind deter you, you can often find them in more designs and styles than you could ever dream of.
