Custom Closet Designs in Miami FL: Request Your Custom Design Today

By Chris Senn

Most people have trouble keeping their closets organized. Cluttered, stuffed, dusty and messy are words that most people will use to describe their closet when asked. I challenge you to get your closet organized, clean and manageable. The secret is to have a place for everything. You have to learn to make the most of useable space and categorize like items.

Try to create a balanced and visually appealing design. You're investing your time and money....so be sure you like the finished product. Determine how much of each clothing storage "type" you need (eg. hanging, folded, drawers). Some professional organizers recommend doing a detailed inventory....but who has the time. Just make a general estimate of what you use now, and note any deficiencies. For example: you have 10 feet of hanging space, but could use another 2 feet.

Don't underestimate how much space you require for hanging clothes, and don't plan too much area for long hanging. With today's fashions most people don't need more than 12 to 24 horizontal inches of long hanging space.

Locate drawers at the center of your closet design, directly across from the door so they are the first thing you see when entering the closet. Drawers make a good visual focal point and typically need the extra clearance provided by the central location. If you're designing a large closet, include an island in the center of the space that incorporates your drawers.

Many people have all different types of hangers; go out and purchase matching hangers for all your clothes; it will create a much nicer appearance of your hanging clothes. In addition, it allows all clothes to hang at the same level and nothing will be hanging below other clothes and thus maybe even becoming lost in your closet. These are simple closet solutions to revamp your closet.

Some people have a large shoe collection that could fill an entire closet. Standardized shelving can be utilized for the shoe collector. With all your shoes organized, your closet solutions will be that much more streamlined. If you do not have space for all the shoes consider donating some of the more practical shoes to a third world country, they could really use them.

Small crates on the floor make great places to keep your socks, scarves and hats or other items that won't wrinkle. If you have something special, like a lot of baseball caps or a lot of ties, then make a special place for these things. Hooks and tie racks are cheap and don't take up hardly any space at all. Be creative in finding places for things.

If you still don't have enough room, then you really might need to downsize your wardrobe. Get rid of as much as possible. Shoes that are just old and scuffed or hurt your feet should be tossed out immediately. Old out of date clothing or clothes that don't fit quite right should be eliminated. Encourage yourself to stay organized by investing in some new matching clothes hangers. Remember that wooden hangers look very nice, they're functional and keep your clothing separated and hanging nice. Clean your closet today for a fresh outlook and organized life!
