The Best Lighting for Kitchens

By Louis O. Rollins

Most homeowners probably want their kitchens to be attractive, comfortable, clean and bright but the electricity bills that pay seems to be increasing every time. With this, how can we have an attractive and bright kitchen? Can our lighting system help us cut down our energy expenses while allowing us to have the kitchen that we always want?

Luckily, kitchen downlights are much more efficient compared to the electricity needed to light up incandescent lamps which most houses often use. They are advantageous to use, not only for being functional and decorative lighting that last for years, but because they also save you a surprising amount of money over their lifespan.

Nowadays, many homeowners like lightings that give an illusion of more height to make the area more spacious. That's why they consider down-lighters in their lighting plans because they lie within the ceiling level.

In addition, this lighting system does not have cables or wires hanging down which can catch grease or dust. This is the reason why homeowners love to use this lighting system is because they are more hygienic and easier to clean.

Basically, you may not realise that your lighting system can heat up so much your kitchen. However, your kitchen naturally has kettles, toasters and cookers naturally give off heat to as part of their use to give hot meals and drinks.

In contrast, there is another type of lighting system that is designed to focus on light production.

On the other side of the coin, Downlights, particularly LED's, give little or no heat at all because they are designed with fine structure that takes away any heat build-up. This lighting system is focused more on producing light.

Things to Remember:

The vert first step you can probably do after you install your light bulb to your kitchen is to identify the exact number of downlights you want or need. This is easy for anyone because it's more on personal preferences.

And because electricity is dangerous and it could kill you, evaluate your electrical skills or knowledge first before you install the lamp. Ask yourself whether you can install the lighting yourself or should you get an electrician in.
