Lock Picking With A Bump Key

By Daryl Jenson

I don't know if this has ever happened to you but I once came home, reached in my pocket and found out that I somehow lost my keys. What that meant was I was locked out of the house. With no family around, I didn't know what to do. I walked down to the local gas station and called a locksmith. Within an hour or so I was about $200 lighter in the pocket but I was back in my home.

Money was tight and I didn't have $200 to spend. But that was the cost of just a few minutes of this locksmiths time. I figured if I educated myself in how to pick a lock, I wouldn't be faced with this same situation again. To do this I would also need to pick up a few tools.

I picked up a torsion wrench and a paperclip. I read online that a bobby pin may be a good lock picking tool to have as well. Lock picks are easy to find on the internet and you can spend hundreds of dollars or maybe just $20 for a decent lock picking kit.

What if a key could open up your lock. Wait a minute, if I had the key I would be able to open up my home. No, I'm talking about a bump key. It is a key which is specially crafted, filed down, and if you can get it to fit one brand of door locks, it will fit most door locks of that same brand. Having a bump key handy and knowing how to use it can help you out if you are locked out of your home.

A bump key could be used by a potential burglar, so knowing the best lock system that you can put on your house that is resistant to bump keys is a positive learning experience. Knowledge is king and if you either search online for either articles or videos on how to pick a lock, you'll also learn how you can protect your family.
