Cutting Down Electricity Costs Over Winter

By James Smith

Keeping warm during winter can be a difficult task and with lots of people trying to save money at the moment, tips on how to reduce electricity expenses are welcomed. This article will explain some simple ways that you can cut energy costs dramatically, just by adding some soft furnishings.

It's a common misconception that during winter, you must have your central heating on - well you don't, so turn it off! This is one of the best ways to make sure that you're saving some money. Alternative ways to keep warm include wrapping up, (thick jumpers, fluffy socks and dressing gowns can prove quite cosy too), popping on the kettle (warm drinks will help to heat up the body) and burying yourself in a mountain of cosy blankets!

Once you've managed to drum up a bit of heat in your home, the last thing that you want is for it to escape and it can often creep under doors. This also makes you think, if the hot air can escape, then surely the cold air can come in (and draughts are the last thing you want when you're all cosy in your home). A way to reduce this problem is to add door curtains to your doors - they act as a defence against the cold air and they make sure the warmth remains inside your home. It's also important to remember that the thicker the curtain, the better.

Sitting on leather sofas during the winter can sometimes resemble ice cubes! A cost effective way to make leather sofas warmer is to add a throw to them during the winter time as the sofas can often be cold to the touch. Throws come in a variety of materials, styles and colour, so there is bound to be a design that suits your living room.

Regardless of whether you decide to adopt all of these techniques, or just a couple, you're sure to cut down your energy expenses. Adding door curtains, throws and other soft furnishings are also a great way to make your home cosy this winter.
