Liriope and ornamental grass have become a very popular alternative because of this which last longer compared to other types. They can grow in various conditions of soil and have nor problems usually with disease and insects.

Most varieties tolerate severe drought and large ones make a movement illusion with the slightest breeze only. Home gardeners discovered combining them with shrubs and flowers will provide the garden with interesting colors and textures. Their colors are pretty diverse in range and were used in setting off small and large lawn areas successfully.

When choosing what to plant, consider these following things with first being their hardiness rating and match it to your zone. These zones are geographically defined areas which specific categories of plants can grow depending on their climate and temperature. Deciding where their placement is depends if they will receive full sunlight because most of them have better performance in this. Other varieties though that loves sun could still perform well in partial shade but their growth is hindered. Taking good care of them is similar to other plants in the beginning so make sure they begin well in your garden. When transplanting, ensure the soil is not dried through filling water in your planting hole before they are set. You should add some compost then fill in around the grass then water them once again.

Most of them require ordinary soil only that is well drained and moderately fertile but others will not so do some experiments in this. They must have good drainage even for those preferring materials which absorbs moisture well. Some needs regular watering and others may die when watered too much so be informed with this to avoid drowning or drying them up.

Determine the function your grass will serve such as covering exposed soil, garden bed edging, adding texture and enhancing privacy. They can become barriers for you against prying eyes and the recommended varieties are those taller and thicker. Lower growing ones are the better choice for lining driveways so your view would not be blocked.

Lastly, decide whether you need a clumping or running grass with the former being non invasive and will not spread from their location. The latter, on the other hand, will spread themselves if you would not control them. Choose one depending if you want them to form a neat mound or cover your ground.
