Key Points For Decorating A Baby's Room

By Bradly Thompson

Awaiting the arrival of a new bundle of joy to join your family is a very exciting time. One of the main preparations is getting the baby's room ready. It's not so much a stressful task to do. You'll have enough time before the baby arrives and decorating a baby's room gives you the excuse to be a child again. Imagine the use of colors, artworks and decors! It'll definitely be one joyful ride.

Sex is most often the starting point for expectant parents who are decorating a baby's room. If you're not sure about your baby's sex yet, though, you'll have to begin thinking from another perspective. Instead of going with sex-sensitive blue-or-pink themes, you could start with a more neutral theme like fairytale themes, cartoon characters and even animal patterns. You'll find a lot of decor like this in most home supply stores, and they're a welcome alternative to the typical color scheme.

Carefully choose the materials in the baby's room. They should all be safe for your baby. Select hypoallergenic, gentle and baby-safe objects as much as possible.

The crib will be your baby's bed for a while. Prioritize its safety factor since for the first few months your baby will be sleeping and lying down most of the time. The crib should be of superior quality - made of durable materials, non-toxic and safe for babies.

The crib should be made of materials that are also safe for your baby. High-quality wood is recommended. Wood of inferior quality easily tends to splinter while plastic cribs are prone to breakage. Although metal is sturdy, it can be very cold and sterile and might even cause illness to your baby.

How best to beautify the baby's room? Aside from the usual toys, colorful posters and photographs, etc. putting an area in the room is an instant appeal booster. You can place several small rugs throughout the room. Alternatively, you can place one large rug positioned in the baby's area. This is important when your baby starts to crawl and be interactive. The rug will keep the baby safe and comfortable from the hard bare floor. Even if you plan to use carpeting, adding an area rug makes the room look nicer.

Your little one won't be staying little forever, so plan your nursery for your baby's development eight to ten years down the road. That means putting in a lot of storage compartments, leaving generous amounts of room and refraining from installing anything that's too permanent. You'll want the room to be able to grow and develop right along with your child.

If the baby's room is to be shared with a brother or sister, make the space special for both of them. It should not only be about the new baby. Having a space for each child gives them their own "playroom" and the entire room as their playground.

It is really an exciting time, isn't it? Enjoy the process of getting the room ready for your new baby. Likewise, enjoy the coming years of redecorating as your child grows older every year. The important thing is a room that's safe, clean, comfortable and fun for your little angel.
