Style Your Bed

By Kylie Peterson

Sigh...the feel of a relaxing bed and the sight of an inviting bedroom. That is one of life's simple pleasures but nonetheless a wonderful feeling.

The bed is our asylum, our personal refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The primary tag is that it's a place to rest and sleep. Sure, but wouldn't it be nice to have an ultra comfortable bed that is beautiful too? Stylish is not only for clothes. Beds can be chic too.

With a few fresh ways to style your bed in our home decorating feature here don't cost the earth and are practical, affordable tips for styling your bed with more than the easy to buy, oversized, fluffy pillows ideas other homeowners are largely dependent on.

Decorating your bed is an easy task. Few items are needed and not much brainpower is required either. You can even brainstorm at the brink of sleep. Think of this as your special place. Your own private world. You don't need much labor nor expensive things to style your bed into an appealing space of rest.

The most important thing is to decorate with your preferences in mind. Similar to renovating the rest of the house, using items that appeal to your taste is vital to create an end-result that is easy on your eyes and more importantly, to your heart.

Read on to learn some simple yet effective ways to beautify your bed, which inevitably will improve your bedroom's look as well.

Consider yourself as the queen and the bed your throne. Comfort is key to a deep slumber. Choose a mattress that is right for you. Some people like the not so soft kind but others crave for the bouncy spongy texture. Maintain the mattress by washing it once every two months and changing the sheets regularly. Furnish the bed with soft pillows and a suitable comforter, especially during the cold winter months.

Select beddings that look good with the rest of the room. You might have chosen a theme or a motif, so base the color and design of your bedsheet, duvet, pillow covers and comforter from the theme or motif. It will make the bedroom very well put-together. Fabric that is soft and lush is ideal because it helps you have better rest. Whether it's for sleeping, taking naps or just lounging around, the texture that feels good on your skin makes for a soothing bedtime.

One quick way of styling the space around your bed is to purchase natural area rugs that are easily available at local home furnishing stores as well as online from importers and specialist manufacturers. Make sure you pick up area rugs made of pure and organic materials such as bamboo, rattan, jute or cotton, which will never go out of style! A wheat colored shag under a bed-side table, or a brightly colored, tufted area rug near the foot-side of the bed makes for a fantastic floor-seating arrangement that adds beauty, coziness and enhances the welcoming aspect of a very private space!
