Child Proofing Your Home In Style

By Marshall Brooke

A home that is complete with all necessary amenities to live comfortably is every family's aspiration. But it is a totally different story when you have kids and babies of your own as they must be given the special care and attention they need. Never mind if it is just a tiny house or apartment because what truly matters is the safety and security that you can provide to the youngest members of the family.

As a general rule, everything that falls below the chest level serves as a safety risk for little kids and babies. As they grow, they become even more interested with the things that they see around them, more so when they begin to learn how to walk, jump, and climb. It is important that every room in the house is checked for rough and sharp edges found on walls or furniture pieces. Avoid painful bumps by affixing rubber or silicone corner protectors on tables and by getting rid of things on the floor that could cause choking.

Provide a safe or cabinet for keys so you won't just leave them on the foyer table. Install pegs for hanging bags, jackets, or belts so you can keep curious tots from digging into your personal stuff. Firmly fasten all screws and nails. Place an anti-slip rubber mat under a rug to prevent dangerous slips. Use specialized plugs to cover exposed electrical outlets and keep small fingers away.

When it comes to organizing shelves, cabinets, or closets, get rid of things located on the lower most levels that aren't child-appropriate. You may instead use the space to store pillows or your child's favorite books and toys. You may use baskets made of natural fiber or matching boxes to contain the toys for a neat look. Packing away can easily be taught and absorbed this way.

A showroom-quality home, where crawling babies and running kids are always welcome, can easily be attained. When you're eyeing a house offered by turnkey project management specialists, make sure that the structure as well as the finishing touches, such as the fixtures and flooring materials, are in strict compliance with government-approved child safety standards in your area. Know that with the proper mix of architectural elements and design, together with the expertise of Singapore interior designers and architects, having a child-friendly home will never be a far-fetched dream.
