Finding Compote Candles For Your Home

By Harriet Porter

Fruit cooked in a syrup is referred to as a compote and this is probably the most common usage of this word today. Another usage, however, is to refer to a bowl made of brass, porcelain or metal with a base and stem. This bowl was used to serve fruit, candy or nuts. Today, bowls like this are made of other materials too and can be used for many different purposes. It is often used as a container for a candle. Compote candles add soft lighting and ambiance to any setting.

There are so many different fragrances available today. They are fruity, sharp, flowery, citrusy or spicy and your choice depends on personal preference. Wonderful scents like lemongrass verbena, pomegranate ginger, sweet mango and spiced vanilla are chosen for the different ways in which they affect our senses. It is preferable to choose natural fragrances as artificial ones can cause high levels of soot and release harmful chemicals.

When choosing a candle, the material from which it is made is also important. Many are made from paraffin wax and these are cheaper but a number of manufacturers have changed to other materials that are more eco-friendly and burn purely and cleanly. Soy wax and coconut oil are just two of these. Beeswax has used for centuries and is non-toxic and long burning.

Surrounding a compote with a floral arrangement creates a stunning centerpiece on a table. The candle will keep burning for a long time, providing its soft light and permeating the whole room with its fragrance. There are many stores selling these items and they are often prepared to refill the bowl when this is necessary.

A large candle will often be made with more than one wick. Some are triple wicked and others have as many as four wicks. The material from which a wick is made influences the way it burns. Fine wire made of lead was used in the past to stiffen wicks but there is a move away from this due to concerns about lead poisoning. Many wicks are now made of 100% cotton.

Some of the most special products are handmade by people who have spent years developing their craft. They offer amazing blends of essential oils and perfumes, combined to create a feast for the senses. Almond extract and cinnamon may be used to give that lovely smell associated with baking goodies or jasmine and rose petals to create a calming effect.

The prices of these products vary greatly, depending on height, width, type of materials used and other factors. The most expensive ones are often bought for use on special occasions. They can be burnt even before guests arrive to create a specific aroma in a room. Others are suitable for use on a more regular basis.

When making a choice from an online store, you are confronted by a huge variety of products. This can be very enticing but it can make choice difficult. Think about what you want to use the candle for and make a selection accordingly. Read customer reviews to find out what they experienced. All this can help you to make a suitable selection.
