Successfully Creating A Rustic Country Home Decor

By Anita Ortega

Interior design plays a very big role in how people feel when they are within a particular space. Of course, tastes differ dramatically from one person to the next, so what they choose should be in keeping with their own lifestyle and taste. That said, learn how to create a rustic country home decor with ease and affordability.

Nothing is as comfortable and cozy as rustic design, as it gives people that homey feel that many love. What's more is that it can be really easy to do, and it doesn't have to break the bank. In fact, many items and furnishings can actually be purchased from secondhand stores, flea markets and garage sales.

When properly planned out and furnished, the outcome is charming and endearing. To do this, natural woods should be aged, even if the piece is brand-new. Lines have to be simple without any fussiness, and no one should ever feel uncomfortable about putting their feet up in this modest design scheme.

Just like in a country home or cottage in the mountains, wood floors are essential for this design scheme. Do not, however, opt for high polished finishes, as this is not in keeping with rustic design. They should be matte, either through waxing or polishing, or possibly painted in subtle tones. Throw a beautiful area rug over them for added patterns, textures, and color. Choose furniture, preferably made of pine, and kind of rough in appearance. Sprinkle a few handcrafted objects about, and the room is starting to take shape.

A rocking chair would definitely be an asset, and other seating should be in the form of wicker furniture or ladder backed chairs. Benches are also extremely popular in this design scheme. Tables of any kind should be somewhat rough looking. What ever the piece, it should have an old, weathered appearance.

The lighting will also play a very important role and it's not to be neglected. As such, the best lighting sources should be finished in either brass or wrought iron. Must have light sources should include at least one chandelier and some wall sconces. Be sure to use candles and hurricane lamps, as well as kerosene lamps, which are elements often seen in this type of design.

Traditional rustic country is all about neutral tones as well as greens, blues, and reds. Mix and match these throughout, without going overboard. To ensure this is kept under control, use two or three, but not more.

In the bedroom, invest in a quilt, which is very popular with this design scheme, as is a weathered trunk at the foot of the bed. A beautiful headboard could be a recycled old door, for example. It could just as easily be an antique brass headboard. Think of open shelves on which to place personal items and accessories that are true to this design.

A plate rack and a butcher's rack make excellent additions to a kitchen. If there is room add a butcher block island for functionality and practicality. Top off the look with a beautiful large pine table and opt for mismatched chairs.
