Designing Well: A Case Of Improved Productivity

By Anne Cole

Formerly cold, stiff work spaces that are not as inviting as they are conducive for work are finally gone. The modern office space now welcomes natural light, regards spare corners as useful as occupied ones, and welcomes colours as essential elements to the usual work day.

Designing office spaces is apart from designing houses for its sheer rationale: office spaces must make work conducive. But contemporary Interior design has ever since evolved and brought with it innovations which make work spaces much more livable today than ever, and thus more favorable for brainstorming, planning, instead of just plain working.

The aim of functional designing is straightforward: to produce a space that engages anyone to work instead of the other way around. An interior design done well, on the other hand, can do much more than that. It piques the senses and keeps them attracted, making the option of working something every employee looks forward to all because of a change in interiors.

This is how strong interiors are. To make spaces even more interesting to the user, balance your use of bare and occupied space. Avoid putting all in a single place, counting those not needed anymore. To make laying out your space simpler, set aside one corner in which all you see is no more than a piece of paper to balance everything. Appreciate the power of colour over people as well as its capacity to send powerful messages: make certain that your office colour jibes well with your business identity. You may also infuse a certain icon or figure that represents your company the best possible way.

You will observe that interior design is also a sound marketing means for businesses. Make sure to send only the right message through your office design, whether it's a laidback or interactive office space, or a minimal and welcoming one. Based on the industry you are a part of, and the extent to which clients come into contact with your space as well, modify interior design appropriately. For service businesses such as spas and clinics, making your interiors as welcoming, calming, and cosy as possible will help communicate the same soothing message to your clientele. For workplaces which invite public involvement, like banks and telecoms, providing bright, roomy spaces and the right fixtures to allow for comfortable communication is always the best possible way to go.
