Tips from an Interior Decorator

By Daniel Miller

An interior decorator is skilled at doing many things to enhance the home. They're skilled at changing wall colours, wallpaper, fabrics, selecting furniture and many other items which can improve the feel and look of a home. Each home should have the character of the householder and a talented decorator can offer tips of the way to make that happen.

One tip that an interior decorator may give you is to keep your home organised and freed from clutter. This is necessary to keep the rooms in your home neat and clean. Too many pieces of furniture and an overpowering amount of accessories can clutter a room and give it a disorganized appearance. Take out unnecessary items from a room that you do not use to open the space and neat it up.

Select furniture that may compliment your living space. Don't select outsized furniture that will take up all the space in a room. Ensure the furniture will fit according to the scale of your room and so the color of your furniture matches the other decor in the room. Many designs of furniture are made to fit any size room which will compliment your house.

An interior decorator will always select the right wall colors for a room with it being so important to the feel and look of the home. Choose shades that may compliment your living space like neutral tones. Neutral tones will match in with about any decor and give your house a relaxing feeling.

Another interior decorating tip that a decorator would give you is to put the right lighting in a room. The lights in a room can change the outward appearance of everything in a room so it is best to put the correct amount of light in each room and in areas where there is no light. Lighting in a room will show off your decor such as artwork and other accessories and brighten up a room.
