This Is The One - John Deere Lawn Edger Review

By Sophia Brown

This unit wasn't inexpensive...paid about $80.00. I'm going to spend a couple hundred and but a quality edger. Not sure how they get the picture that they do for trenching but I have yet to get any sort of trench that looks like theirs. If you need an edger, and don't want the trouble of maintaining a gas-powered edger, this is the electric edger for you. Best advice to you for first time use on over growth, use a string trimmer to clear over growth, and then use the edger. Use a blower/rake to clear your path, and then make one more pass with the edger.

Edging was a breeze and was done in half the time as the weed eater. Seems to have more power and the design of the blade chews right through the edges.

After you remove the "sod," you would normally use a blower or push broom to clean up what's left. Then, you could consider a pressure washing of the sidewalk, as there will be dirt under the sod on the concrete. I bought it to replace a much more difficult one to use, a gas-powered one from Sears. Even though it is electric and using a cord is somewhat more restrictive, it does a good job and is easy to use. And I do not mind using it for landscaping service purposes. This trimmer is only $90.00 bucks. Unless I'm overlooking the obvious, it's of little use to me. I find this edger does remain in the edger position when in use.

However, it worked easy enough. Due to the length of the lawn hanging over the sidewalk, in most places, it required running the EdgeHog over each section at least twice. I used to have a gas-powered edger, it's just a hassle compared to an electric one. Excellent in trimming along flower beds.

I can't wait for 2 weeks to go by so I can convince myself I need to do it again. My neighbors were out checking it out, and they really need an edger.

The list price on Amazon is a little ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I love Amazon and you can get some great deals but always remember to shop around for the good price.

Purchased to replace a weed eater edger that was 15 years old and had gone on to wherever old worn out weed eaters go. Used it today for first time and found it to be superior to the aged weed eater product.

There is a height adjustment for the trenching level of the blade but that's useless. This is a powerful easy to use edger. I can dig a hole with my bare hands, so basically this edger just needs to be able to cut hot butter for me. If you have clay and rocks for a yard it may indeed not have enough power.
