Your Bathroom: Do You Need To Upgrade?

By Carlee Sessum

Your bathroom may be the smallest room in the house but it is perhaps one of the most important for your family. It is your personal private space where you can contemplate the day gone by. If it's been a while since you last upgraded your bathroom, there are ways that you can make it more enjoyable and pleasant to be. The bathroom can increase the value of your home if you upgrade it correctly. Therefore, it is very important that you make the extra effort to create the right atmosphere for your bathroom.

It may be that you need to replace the whole bathroom suite, including the bath, shower, toilet and wash basin. If you don't change everything that is old and shabby will really stand out in an upgraded bathroom. Whatever style that you are after, you have many to choose from like modern to retro or classical to hip. Of course, make sure you have a budget and try to stick to it by being a careful shopper. The most high-end bathroom designs come from companies that create bespoke designs. On the lower and more budget conscious end, you can easily get nice suites on the internet or at high street stores. You must also consider the fitting costs in your budget. If it is too difficult to place the appliances in the bathroom by yourself, many companies offer to install it at an extra cost.

If your budget does not run to replacing the whole suite there are more inexpensive options to consider. You can simply replace the knobs and taps for the bathtub or wash basin with something more modern to give your bathroom the extra flair. You could also replace the old and moldy shower curtain with a clear screen to make your bathroom look more clean. These are pretty cheap and very easy to install. You could also replace the tiles on the wall or floor making your bathroom look even cleaner. When looking at flooring, whether it's wood, carpet or tile, be sure that it can handle the humidity in your bathroom.

Apart from the main appliances in the bathroom there are several other ways to create a fresh new look. Decide on a color scheme that suits your mood. Soft furnishings such as bath mats, curtains or blinds and lots of soft, fluffy towels can be co-ordinated. Again, there is a huge choice of these available, so have fun deciding on your look. Splashes of color can be added by pictures on the wall or creating a focal point which could include a potted plant or an arrangement of scented candles. The candles can also create a sensual mood with its aroma. You can also do other inexpensive yet effective changes like adding a new toilet roll holder, a new soap dispenser or a toilet brush.

Finally, make sure you have adequate storage to hide away those bathroom essentials, keeping the look tidy and perhaps, most importantly, clean.
