Wood Flooring For The Kitchen - Is It Recommended?

By Brittany Mitchell

Elegance and warmth are easily achieved by using wood flooring in the house. However, these aren't the only factors why homeowners choose timber for their floors. Timber floors also are well-known for not collecting allergy causing elements like dust and pollutants. Thus, this type of floor covering is great for households with members who are with asthma or for homeowners who prioritize the health of their kids.

While a lot of homeowners knew these gains and installed timber floors in their living room and bedroom, they rarely used it in high moisture areas such as kitchen and bathrooms. Times have changed, though. Flip the pages of home improvement mags and see kitchen floors made from timber!

So, how is it possible for this material to end up in spots where moisture is high? It's a matter of choosing the kind and species of timber which fit the kitchen.

When selecting between engineered or solid wood, the engineered type is favoured for the kitchen. It is not just reasonably priced but also very durable. With its layers of flooring, it is noted to resist problems like rippling and buckling.

When it comes to choosing between pre-finished or unfinished type, pre-finished wood best suits the kitchen. The unfinished type results to great savings. Still, in the long term, maintaining it costs more. For a low-maintenance and extremely durable kitchen wood flooring, polyurethane-finished wood should be chosen. Pre-treated timber not only makes kitchen flooring durable, it also ensures the safety of this area from smelly fumes.

Wood species with more pronounced grains also work well in high traffic places like the kitchen as they cover dents and dust better. Oak which is renowned for its durability and well-defined grain is used by many property owners. While wood species with prominent grain designs are recommended, others pick light colored ones for design reasons like to match their cabinets. There are also people who desire a more rustic ambiance for their kitchen and use hand scraped wood.

Without a doubt, wood flooring can rule even in the kitchen! With the help of wooden floor specialists and practicing the required maintenance, timber can be a part of any place in the house.
