Interior and Exterior Shutters

By John Stabler

There are many different kinds of shutters on the market. When you think of shutters you probably think about exterior shutters that go around windows. There are also interior shutters that can be utilized like any other window covering.

The primary use of early shutters was to cover windows and block out cold, heat and light. Today, however, most exterior shutters no longer open and close. Instead, they are designed for decorations that fit with the home's style. Careful examination to the shutters on most homes today will reveal that even if they did close, they would not cover the entire windows.

Exterior shutters are a wonderful decoration for the front of a house. They can add appeal and style as well as a little color. Shutters are durable and can be fastened tightly against a house so they never bang or move. They come in many different colors and several different styles as well.

Interior shutters are typically used in lieu of curtain panels and can be fully opened up by swinging doors or come with a louver that can be regulated to allow for the perfect amount of light. Also, interior shutters do provide some benefit as far as low outdoor temperatures are concerned. They can help insulate from the cold air at the windows - leading to lower power bills. Additionally, interior shutters come in standard sizes to fit the most common size windows, but it is well advised that each window be measured correctly to establish a good fit.

Shutters have changed a lot form their initial creation. Now, most exterior shutters serve only as a decoration and interior shutters fill the purpose for which the devices were originally intended. There are several different price ranges available and the styles each have different features for the home.
