Making The Most Of A Small Living Space

By Bianca Styles

You can still express yourself, beautify the space and make the rooms functional even for a small house. Home decorating doesn't discriminate between the spacious and the limited size. Using the key decorating guidelines meant for a smaller living space, you could transform your home into a better abode just like renovating a big residence.

First, avoid clutter. Do away with unnecessary things. Remember, space counts. Every inch you have is like precious gold in a limited size of a home. Make use of storage to organize and keep your belongings. Compartments need not be boring. You can buy storage containers that look stylish enough to be decorations themselves.

Believe it or not, using certain colors can make your place bigger...at least in your eyes. But still, even if not in reality, the appearance of more space is pleasing to the eyes than a crowded room, isn't it? Use light colors to make your place look bigger. The ceiling, especially a low one should be colored a lighter shade than the rest of the room to create an impression of height.

Utilize furnishings that are not too big and those that serve a dual purpose. For a small space, you'll need as much storage as you can especially if you're a big time shopper and collector. There are also things like a sofa bed, multi-storage containers and sleek furniture.

Also, maximize the use of area rugs. Round or oblong rugs are better for smaller spaces than the typical rectangular rugs. These shapes soften the look of the space and don't eat up too much legroom. Here, you can now display darker colors for a contrast or stripes and patterns for more design.

Lastly, lighting is important in making a small home look cozy and airy at the same time. You don't want to be creating shadows as these can shrink a space. But a soft glow and dim light can help make the place look relaxing.

With these tips in mind, decorating your small space won't have to be an arduous task nor does it have to be a stressful home improvement plan. In a jiffy, you can beautify your small space into your own special place.
