How To Preserve Oriental Rugs

By Robert Bell

Oriental mats are a broad range of coverings that are used on the floor. In most cases, they are made in Asian countries using hands. These carpets are commonly made of silk, wool, or cotton. Different techniques are used in the making of carpets but to get a good quality of oriental rugs, the best way to go about it is using the hands. If you have a carpet and are wondering how to maintain it to ensure that it gives you service for a long time, follow the below tips.

Leaving your rug in one position for a long time will lead to it wearing off on one side while the other side is still new. To avoid this, you should keep on rotating the carpet and changing positions. In fact, you should do this after every one month as this process will ensure that the wear and tear on the mat is evenly distributed and is uniform.

Do not place it in a position that has direct sunlight as it will fade dramatically. Sunlight leads to premature fading of the floor covering and thus should be kept away. If you have to use the rag in a place where there is the sunshine often, you can prevent the adding of it by blocking the sun rays from reaching the floor covering directly. This can be achieved by building a shade.

The rugs are designed in such a way that fringes are at the end of the mat. The fringes can easily tangle and twist, especially with the movement of numerous people on it. It is easy to untangle the fringes without destroying the fibers; all you have to do is flip the rug over and allow the edge to straighten more naturally.

If you have this type of carpet in your house, it is advisable that you find a quality vacuum cleaner so that it can help you with the cleaning services. Clean it often as it helps the rug from being packed down with excessive dust. Make sure that when you use the vacuum cleaner on the rug that the beater bar is off, as this will reduce the chances of having runs and tears on the fibers because they are quite delicate.

Once a spill takes place on the carpet, you need to clean the spot immediately. To begin with, you should use a dry cloth to soak off excess liquid. However, note that you should not use bleach, soap or any other cleaning products as it might damage the fabric.

When placing the rug, start off by placing padding underneath. When you do this, it helps to keep the mat in a stable position, maintain the shape and reduce the possibility of wrinkling. Thus, the value of the mat is enhanced as well as making it safer and more comfortable to walk on.

Moisture building on the rug could lead to the formation of molds. This is unhealthy and should be prevented by ensuring the Oriental is ever aerated and also ensuring it is dried out, which in turn will reduce the possibility of having mold formation.
