Tips For Emergency Supplies Storage

By Eric Holm

You put lots of time and effort in acquiring your emergency supplies and preparing for a disaster of evacuation. However, all planning would hardly matter if you are not organized enough. If on a cold winter night you cannot finding your emergency solar blanket and the sleeping bag then all the planning has failed miserably. Hence you always need to be organized while executing the storage of items concerning your emergency supplies before a disaster strikes. Storing all the emergency supplies in a marked bag makes the users aware of their presence and also helps in finding the specific ones easily at the time of a crisis. It is always wise to make all the supplies portable so that they can easily be carried as per your requirements.

Every disaster kit should include the basic first aid supplies needed to treat minor injuries. It is also necessary to address all the basic human needs like food, water and sleep. Take the time to review the contents of the kit and learn how to use each item to provide fundamental first aid for minor injuries. This confidence will help when you are under a great amount of stress to perform. Take these simple steps for the proper handling of emergency storage.

To begin with, consider your trauma kits or the first aid kits as the primary item for your emergency storage. Make sure that when you purchase those they come with a container or backpack to hold all the necessary emergency supplies like bandages, creams, splints and other things together. If you purchase separate medical supplies make sure that the container is large enough to hold all the supplies and can easily be kept in an easy-to-find location. Backpacks and plastic cases are the best to be used for your first aid kit or trauma kit. Label all the supplies with their names so that there is no confusion while finding the same. Using a large and heavy duty rubber 55 gallon tote on wheels to store and move a large supply of emergency gear or to store all the backpacks in one place is another great idea. Equipments like first aid supplies, emergency shelter rations, sleeping linens should all be kept separately marked. - Organize yourself for an emergency disaster drill and practice locating the equipments kept in storage.

Your survival gear will be useless if you have not given any thought to emergency storage. A disaster kit needs the things that address all the basic human needs including food, water and shelter. These items must remain in pristine condition if they are to be of any use to you. For people who have plenty of storage room, experts recommend storing water in a standard 50-gallon drum. Make sure you have a water treatment kit on hand or at least a jug of bleach. The bleach can be used to disinfect the liquid if you suspect water borne diseases have caused contamination. The water stored inside a typical heater is usable if it is filtered first. Keep plenty of military rations, dehydrated food and power bars on hand for nourishment. A basic medical manual will tell you everything you need to know about treating minor illnesses and injuries.

Everyone should invest some time in coming up with preparedness storage solutions. Easy access to these items can mean the different between a total disaster and a positive outcome when disaster strikes.
