Create Your Own Private Getaway With Chicago Patio Furniture

By Gwen Lowe

Sometimes it seems as though no matter where you go in your home to get a bit of peace and quiet, someone is already in there making noise. You can create a new, room-like area with some Chicago patio furniture. To get things started, a comfortable chair, with an end table beside it, will give you a spot to go and relax.

If your back porch is simply a concrete slab, you can find an awning for cover, or perhaps get a small table with an umbrella to keep the rain and sun from being a problem. Over time, you can upgrade to an awning attached to the roof, a gazebo or even have the roof extended over the concrete.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, use your little area when you need time alone. While out there, envision what it is you want the area to be. Decide weather or not you want it to be a place the family uses for different occasions, or if you want it to be an area only you use.

It is quite possible that you will want to add a bit more furniture and make the area someplace the family can enjoy too. You will find that unless there is a planned event for the area, most of the time it will be empty and waiting for you to come and relax. Do not allow any televisions or stereo equipment to be put out there unless you want to have kids out there all the time playing or watching TV.

Create a space that reflects your interests. The rest of the house has input from everyone, how big of a television you have, what type of furniture, even the decorations you put on the walls is influenced by everyone. This should be your own area, there is no need to rush in furnishing it.

You do not have to have a dining table and chairs for the area. Pick out a nice chaise, or two-seat couch; add in a coffee table or end tables and decide if you need more or not. Invite your friends over for lunch and see what they think of the area. You could even have a small business meeting out there.

Of course, the weather might cause a bit of trouble for your outside sitting area. Luckily, you can get the furnishings you need made out of a material that will withstand all the rain and snow. It does not have to look like plastic furniture either, get resin that looks like rattan or wicker and no one will know the difference. Go with cushions that can be easily washed and the area will look good all the time.

After you spend a season or two in your new area, you may realize that adding a roof and enclosing the patio will give you added living space without much fuss or expense. Use a space heater designed for outside in the winter and a fan or misting system in the summer and you will have created a space you can use for relaxing no matter what season it is.
