How To Make Custom Tree Houses

By Nelda Powers

For a lot of children playing in a tree house is a part of growing up. It tends to be exciting and a fun place to mess about and camp in. As adults there is always the fear that children could potentially hurt themselves. However if you design it properly you can ensure that children have fun and their custom tree houses are a fun and safe place to play around in.

The first place to start is to talk with your children! Talk to them about what they would like to see. Ask them to write down ideas and draw designs. You may not be able to incorporate everything they want but they are more likely to use the tree house if they feel like they are part of the process. You should also consider whether there will be room for them to sleep inside or whether it will purely be for play time.

Having a different style will make it stand out. For example you may want to do it in the style of something from their favourite story or cartoon. The thought of hanging out in a base in the style of their favourite superhero or a hang out with their favourite cartoon character will be very appealing for them.

Before you start it is also worth talking with your children. Find out the kind of cartoons and characters they like. This can give you some influence on what you intend to build. If your children have conflicting ideas then you may want to incorporate bits and pieces from their suggestions.

The good thing about your own design is that there are less restrictions. You do not need to worry about whether or not it perfectly fits together. There is also the chance to add little extras that can make it more fun for the kids while they use it. For example you could include pulley systems that allow you to wheel up supplies if they are camping out.

Little details can add to the experience. Pulleys and levels are good examples. Having baskets where they can bring up supplies from the ground floor or ropes they can climb across will add to the sense of adventure. Given that this is your own design the only real limits are your imagination and your budget.

If you are doing this for the first time then it helps to look up video tutorials. This can guide you through various aspects of the design and construction process. The advantage of this is that you can pause the video at various points so you can gradually learn how to do the work properly.

Finally when making custom tree houses you need to check whether or not you need planning permission. This may sound strange but in some local areas this is a legal issue whereas with others it is a grey area and they may not care about having a tree house in your garden. However it is vital to check this before you begin building it so you do not unintentionally get into trouble. Use your regular search engine for more information as well as video tutorials and tips to help you with your design.
