Cordless Pole Saw - A Handy Tool For Lengthy Yardwork

By Baxter Wells

If you have ever had the pleasure of trying to cut down tree branches that are towering over your head, you may have had some experience with a pole saw. These tools are just what they sound like, that is a cutting blade at the end of a long stick. The same principle is at work with a cordless pole saw.

A manual version of this tool is exactly what it sounds like. It is simply a blade on the end of a long pole. You would hold that thing up in the tree, lay it on the desired branch, and start sweating it out from underneath. Needless to say, this was difficult.

Bright minds added electricity to the situation, making a reciprocating blade to stick out there, and up there, making thing s a whole lot easier. At that point all you had to do is hold the thing up and let the blade do all the work. So long as you stayed out of the ways of falling branches, you were good to go.

Then it became obvious that most trees are never conveniently located near an electrical outlet, so the cordless version came about. Now things started getting easier still. With a wired version you needed extension cords ran out, or a generator nearby, or you were right back with the manual version and no better off.

Now the tree trimmer can roam at will, lopping off branches all over the place, without having to rely on a pesky and tangled up extension line. These tools are a boon to any homeowner with trees to trim, and of course ranchers and such really need them for many tasks.

Builders, too, can use them to get limbs out of the way of roof lines and power lines and even plumb lines. Without the need to stay so close to an electrical outlet you have expanded your field considerably with a cordless pole saw.
