Office Space Planning What It Means

By Denver Burke

Planning the best layout and positioning for your office is something that many people do not place nearly enough importance on when setting up their business or when considering the office for the existing one. Effective office space planning can massively increase productivity and efficiency as well as making for happier workers and it is not something to be taken lightly.

The main priority is of course to make sure that all of the access routs around the workplace are clear from junk and easily navigable so that workers do not get lost looking for different parts of the building. It all adds up into a deadly ball of rage.

A big dilemma for many is where should the desks be looking. Of course not everybody can have a window view, but do you want your workers to be looking at each other, or at cubicle walls, or brick walls. This decision will have a major impact on the lives of your workers and is not to be taken lightly. This is what they will see every day for years.

A lot of the modern companies have abandoned traditional workplace planning and prefer a more open feel which can help to relax staff and make it feel less like work and more like a collaborative effort. This is not always desirable as some jobs should feel like work, think about that as well next time.

The Chinese developed a system of arranging furniture called Feng Shui. Centuries old and based on the traditional Chinese idea of Chi or Qi as the flow of energy they aim to arrange houses so as best to allow the energy to flow smoothly around the room and keep the atmosphere of the place pleasant. This can be helpful when arranging desks and chairs and so on.

It is difficult to overemphasize the importance of good office space planning. You and your workers will spend a large proportion of your lives in this room and if it is badly laid out then it will make every single day a little bit more annoying than it should be.
