Efficiency Apartment Decor

By Judith Bentley

You have moved out and finally have your first place to live. It's all your own, but it's also very small. There are ways that you can use this smaller space and make it look bigger and still elegant.

Having a bedroom/living room all together can be interesting. You have to have a place to sleep but need a place for your friends to sit when they come over. So it's a simple solution for the problem. You can buy sleeper sofas that come in all sizes. A love seat can be made into a regular size bed sleeper sofa or a there are oversized chairs now that you can purchase that can actually be ordered as a twin size sleeper. So you could actually get a couple of oversized chairs and a end table for the middle and have some room left over for a coffee table maybe.

Most people have computers so another purchase you will need is that of a desk to place your computer on. Try and get a desk that is small but will also fit your full computer on. If needed you can always place a shelf on the wall for your printer, just make sure it fits fine. With some of these desks you may even have extra storage for books.

Add in an area rug, not only will it look great, but it will help keep the noise down too. Place it under a table and chairs that you may have for your kitchen furniture if you live upstairs. It's nice to be a bit quiet when you have people below you. An area rug can go into other rooms nicely too, and they will add some warmth and maybe a bit of much needed color.

You kitchen and eating area are probably all together, but not to worry, you can get a pub table with a couple of chairs or maybe even one of those tables that folds up when not in use. They can be bought with a couple of chairs and either one side or both sides will let down so you have more room.

You can still decorate your place and make it look fabulous even if it's smaller. Don't worry it won't be your home for the rest of your life, and you can wait until you can afford more to decorate exactly how you may want too. Don't forget to check out not only second hand stores, but garage sales in the neighborhood too. You never know what you might find that will look great in your new apartment.

Most sales people in furniture stores should be able to provide you with measurements for furniture that you are considering and you should be able to measure your room or rooms to make sure everything will fit and you can still walk in the apartment. Utilize the salesperson's knowledge and they can help you get what will work and may also be able to offer up some additional decorating tips.
