How To Choose Baby Nursery Bedding For Boys

By B. Fraley

If you are having a new baby boy, no doubt you are proud and excited. You'll want to have the nursery perfect so you can welcome him in style when he arrives. Of course one important thing you'll want to do is pick out great baby bedding that will make him comfy and help you decorate the rest of the nursery.

The first thing that you need to do in decorating your little boy's nursery is to pick out one of the great baby boy bedding sets that are on the market. In today's marketplace you can find all sorts of different styles of baby nursery bedding. The key here is to balance the comfort and quality with the style of the baby bedding sets. Ultimately the most important thing is the comfort and quality of the sheet set.

When looking at baby boy bedding sets you will want to first look at the quality of the material. Make sure that it is soft enough for your newborn's sensitive skin. You also want to take care that you are not choosing baby bedding sets that are too heavy for your newborn. If it weighs down on your child too much it will really disturb their sleep.

You'll also want to make sure that the sheets fit the mattress for your new baby boy. You don't want the sheets to accidentally get pulled off while your baby is asleep, since this could put your baby in danger of suffocation.

Once you have found a few baby bedding sets that are of the appropriate quality then you can start to have fun with the styles that you are thinking of.

For boys, the traditional hue that is chosen is blue, and it can help to create a really lovely nursery. If you want to be somewhat traditional, but with a spin you may consider incorporating different shades of blue into the nursery. Or maybe choose baby boy bedding sets that have blue in them with other colors like soft greens and yellows.

You can also choose baby bedding that has a particular theme as well. There are a variety of baby bedding sets to choose from, so no doubt you'll be able to find something that you really like.

Do you enjoy sports and want to pass that on to your son? If so, consider a sports theme for the nursery. Baby bedding can be found in hockey themes, baseball themes, basketball themes, and other sports themes. If you enjoy racing, then consider a race car or NASCAR theme for the bedroom. Toy trains make a great baby boy theme as well. Really it is only your imagination that will limit you.

So allow yourself to be creative while you are doing your shopping. You'll be so happy with what you'll find for your baby boy.

My Favorite Things - A Guide To Decorating Girls Rooms

By Dillan Foster

If you and your daughter are planning her room makeover, we've met at the right time. I will be enumerating the best choices for a decorating theme for girls' bedroom. You and your girl might find one that suits her personality and interest.

Girls are particularly fussy about their rooms. Color is of the utmost importance. Girls understand at an early age that color affects their feelings. Girls are also more prone to hosting sleepovers so it is important that their room is a positive reflection to other girls. Light hues in pink, purple and green are especially popular with girls. The trend this year is to add white to the classic colors. The themes for girl rooms tend to be more romanticized and more connected to nature.

A popular look draws inspiration from the ocean. Walls are painted watery blues to mimic the ocean, neutral or sand-colored flooring with clouds on the ceiling. Accessories such as seashells, bottles of sand, paintings, etc are abundant. A terrific addition would be an alarm clock that wakes her up to the sounds of the waves crashing onto shore or the sound of seagulls.

Another popular theme among girls is romantic nighttime, with stars, wisps of thin clouds and the moon on a black sky.

Working this in the room takes only a little imagination. We see this almost every night so you only need to copy. The ceiling can be painted a midnight blue instead of black (unless your girl is a rock star at heart), paint a yellow-streaked moon and add glittering stars.

Flowers are a big hit among girls (and women!). Floral wallpaper is a nice backdrop and flower artworks are pretty decors. Flower theme can also be shown in bed sheets, curtain, pillow covers and comforter. If the wall is painted, choose a bright color or the color of her favorite flower. Painting pictures of flowers too with butterflies and bees will create a bountiful garden in your girl's room. With the real flowers as decorative items, the feeling will seem so real!

A homely theme welcomed by girls is the cottage-inspired room. There is the use of wood materials here and lots of light, pastel colors. Buying a wooden chair and table can be affordable by purchasing them at a thrift shop or a flea market.

To complete the look, area rugs come to the rescue. An ocean theme can be highlighted by a rug in green or blue color. A moonlight or starlight theme can be adorned with an area rug with a similar design. There are rugs in bright colors and printed floral designs for a nature/flower theme and country home inspired look.

Decorating can be a joint project between you and your daughter, sister, cousin or niece. She will appreciate the outcome so much more if she experiences firsthand the effort that goes with decorating. In addition, her room will feel more personal because she was part of transforming it into her own dream wonderland - in the middle of a lush forest, a garden, a quiet night full of stars, a country home or whatever she wishes her room to be. Allow her to choose her own decorations and watch as her face glows with excitement as her room slowly changes right before her eyes.

Considerations In Tile and Grout Buying

By Rick Amorey

Once you decide to install tiles in your household, you will naturally have to contend with grout as well. This substance, which has similarities with cement, binds and fills the gap in between your tiles. Thus, if you want to pave your home with wonderful tiles, you'll also have to think of the grout that'll come with it.

But what's there to think about? It's just grout, and anything will do, right? Actually, there are many considerations that come with getting grout:

First of all, you have to decide if you want to have it dyed a certain shade. A popular choice among builders, you usually go with this if you want it to match or provide a pleasant contrast from the tiles themselves. But always remember one thing before choosing this; some of the stronger cleaning detergents will remove this color. If cleaning often is in your plan, you will be using normal strength chemicals that will not change the hue. Therefore, the colored grout would be the right choice for you.

After that, you'll have to choose the composition of the grout that you want to use. You see, there are some brands available which will have a rubbery finish; as opposed to the porous nature of most grout. On the plus side, you will avoid having the dirt permeate through the grout; but then you may have to contend with the durability of your material. It has been my observation that this type of grout is not as durable as the normal type of grout.

In conclusion, I can summarize my advice in this manner; if you are getting tiled floors, you must think of the grout and how you plan to have it cleaned, as well. Make things easier for yourself; I suggest that in this early stage, decide to have professionals do the actual cleaning for you already. Think about it; you wouldn't have to bother with the above concerns. All you have to do is maintain it with some attention each day. You would be amazed at how much a few minutes of spraying with water and chlorine will do to them.

Hydroponics from the Aztecs to the Modern Times

By Paul J. Easton

The Indians of Aztec had been known for a scheme of producing crops on rafts in shallow lakes. As an evidence of such ingenuity, you can even witness these gardens near Mexico City.

Hydroponics is the system of growing plants with the roots suspended in mineral-rich waters. Developments in this scheme of growing plants did not start taking place in Europe before 1699. In 1699, Woodward found that he could grow plants in a solution of water to which soil had been added. Knop in 1861 started studies of nutrient elements in water solutions and grew plants in nutrients-rich solutions with mineral salts ridding of the soil.

Studies on the nutritional requirements of plants continued until the 1870's. And by 1925, there were already practical uses of hydroponics established in the greenhouse industry.

The 1930's see huge development as scientists observed the prospective development of farming using hydroponics as a method. In 1930 Gericke even produced the first commercially acceptable hydroponic unit in the United States of America.

Later during the World War II, the American forces in the Pacific even grew crops hydroponically. Today, the availability of automatic control systems and digital testing equipments has unfolded the hydroponics field to the whole world.

Hydroponics has rapidly grown today since the Aztecs. It has turned into a necessary scheme of farming crops especially vegetables and staples in countries where water is scarce and valuable. It has also become more crucial with countries where land is not arable for growing plants.

With water care and land care legislated in most developed countries, sensible and well maintained hydroponic farming is a great promise to sustain the yield of high quality produce while being environment-friendly for tomorrow.

Enjoy Year Round Harvests with a Hydroponic Garden

By Sarah Duke

Hydroponics is a derivation of the Greek words hydro meaning water and pono meaning labor. It is a manner of growing vegetation without the use of soil through some type of hydroponic system. Hydroponics was chiefly used in countries where the soil was not suitable for growing vegetation and for industrial purposes.

But hydroponics has rapidly increased in popularity for people everywhere. The first signs of this growing method showed up in the bigger cities where people had limited access to land to grow fresh vegetables for their health. It has now spread from the cities to the countryside and all lifestyles. With hydroponics, many people are able to enjoy the benefits of a garden without needing a large plot of earth. Your harvest will provide you with lots of fresh veggies, just like an outdoor garden. However, your crop can easily be large enough so you can freeze or can a good portion of it.

A hydroponic garden lets you control the environment and the amount of nutrients your plants receive. With hydroponic gardening, regardless of your soil quality or lack thereof, anyone is able to grow their own produce. And they can do it faster than they could even in great soil. You don't have to worry about common vegetable diseases and blights. In addition, your harvest will always be consistent in yield and of the best quality. It's also possible to raise out of season plants and even fruit trees. There are many greenhouses worldwide that utilize hydroponics to grow flowers and vegetables year round.

Some cities are implementing vertical hydroponic gardens. Whereas some towns have garden plots for the community, urban areas will have hydroponic plots for people to grow their own fresh produce. It might even be used on ocean vessels in the future in order to have fresh vegetables easily available during extended voyages.

Hydroponic gardening can be done indoors with the correct lighting or in a greenhouse. It is also environmentally friendly. You only need about 10 percent of the amount of water required in outdoor gardens. There's no need for the application of chemical products to control pests and weeds. As well, you only need a quarter of the amount of fertilizer utilized by an outdoor garden, and you'll still get the same size of crop. You only need about 20 percent of the space to get the same crop as you would outdoors, and there's no official growing season to worry about. This means that instead of only bearing once, they can bear vegetables or fruit several times a year.

Hydroponics might change the face of gardening and agriculture as the world's population expands and more food is needed to sustain life.

Area Rugs As Sport Souvenir Items

By Corey Barens

If you're a sports enthusiast, you may have been familiar with the frenzy of college sports mania. NCAA brings out the craze during the "March Madness" sports season, where top-ranked collegiate basketball teams battle it out for the Regional and Championship games. Watching the games would remind you of major international sports events bringing out thousands of fans from around the globe when the world practically stops turning as almost every sports lover stays still and watches the game. Think football's World Cup, tennis' Davis Cup, the Superbowl, NBA finals, Major League Baseball's World Championship, the Olympics and Tiger Wood playing.

Team loyalty greatly benefits the souvenir industry. With fans willing to buy anything and everything to support their favored teams, there are never enough T-shirts, caps, mugs, area rugs, towels, pens and other things displaying a school's color, team's logo or a player's name.

Floor coverings have not escaped the attention of the providers of fan merchandise. What better way to show visitors to your home or office where your team loyalties lie than to have a team logo area rug greet them as they enter? And this is an item that is utilized all year, not just during a specific sports season.

Area rugs made as souvenirs are eye-catching products with bright colors and big designs. The logo, name and colors of the college teams are reflected on the area rugs.

The usual sizes of an area rug are 4' x 6' to 5' x 8', therefore using one for any room is possible. Ordering a bigger rug if needed is also feasible.

The area rugs usually come with a non-skid backing of some kind to control slippage. Shipping times vary but can take up to several weeks. You may not be able to find an area rug with your team's logo on it in your local sporting goods store or team apparel shop but the Internet includes several sources from which you may purchase your floor covering.

Area rugs as souvenirs are real prized possessions for die-hard fans. It's hard to miss out on these decorative items.

Patio and Garden Lighting

By Benedict Hunter

Outdoor lighting can beautify your home and make it safer as well. Putting in outdoor lighting is relatively easy. To decide what type of lighting you like the most, use an Internet search engine or visit a hardware store to see what's available.

There's nothing fancy, extraordinary or expensive here. You can install low voltage lighting that can enhance the outlines of your house while providing safety illumination at night. They are also excellent deterrents for would-be trespassers as outdoor lights can often indicate that there are people inside the house.

The following tips can help you if you decide to install outdoor lighting.

* Decide how much you can afford to spend. As with any project, you will want to shop around to get the best value for your money. Landscape designers, hardware stores, and the Internet are all great places to seek advice. They will also be helpful in deciding what kind of lighting you will need and where to place individual fixtures.

* Install low voltage lighting wherever possible. They are low-current as well and will provide outdoor illumination all through the night with just incremental burden to your electric bills. Low voltage garden lights come in kits sold at regular home improvement or hardware shops and come with a built-in transformer and timer.

* Pick the appropriate lights for backyard structures. One common type of outdoor lighting can be placed on shrubbery or small trees. You may want to illuminate the shapely bushes that guard your doorway or your prized rose bed. For most projects, 5 or 7 watt bulbs will be adequate, but you'll want to make sure you get a powerful enough transformer to handle the load.

* Ensure that you document your DIY initiative with a schematic diagram. This will help guide you with the installation and to assist you in future repairs. Include in the diagram the power requirements, light bulb specifications and their exact location in your backyard.

* Be prepared. Before you head off to the hardware store to buy all your equipment, make sure you know exactly what you need. There's nothing worse than getting to the store only to find that you don't know how many bulbs you need or how long your cables should be. Know your power specs so you get the correct cables.

* Get your lawn ready for a makeover. Most outdoor lighting sets contain a stake which will need to be driven into the ground. Soften the earth in that area of your lawn by watering it beforehand. Next, make sure that the places you plan to put light receptacles are cleaned out and ready. It will also help to lay out the cable you will need, leaving plenty of extra length on the transformer end.

* Automate the lighting. The worst thing would be to realize you haven't turned on the lights or to wake up in the middle of the day to see the lights are still on from last night. You can have outdoor lighting transformers that have sensors that can turn on the lights when darkness creeps in and turn them off at sunrise.

Deal Me In

By Clark Grismond

Is it really possible to have a nicer-looking home when you have more money to spare for paying pending bills than for buying home decors needed for home renovation?

One of the best ways to save money when redecorating is to thrift shop. Yard sales, thrift stores, auctions, and resale shops have almost everything you will need to redecorate. Here you can get curtains, furniture, and accessories for a fraction of the price. Sometimes you can even find beautiful accessories at dollar stores.

Don't be misled by the notion that discount and secondhand stores carry less attractive and poor quality products. There are still high-quality items that actually look more expensive than their actual pocket-friendly retail price. The good thing about going to flea markets, discount shops and thrift stores is the wide collection of goods from furniture to what-have-you decorative materials. Your shopping will be so exciting you'll never expect what promising items you'll find.

Here's another simple trick to acquire new decorative items - go to your basement or attic and check out your storage. You might not have seen things you've kept for quite some time and sorting through them can reveal some stuff that you can now use for your home. If not exactly as a display, then perhaps as a material for making other accessories. Old belongings don't mean trash. With some cleaning and polishing, some furnishings can still be used. What did not work in the past might work now.

Creating your own art is not only cheaper but you will be really proud to display it in your home. One fun, easy suggestion is to do a collage. Buy a corkboard that you would normally post messages on and a paint-by-numbers poster that will fit inside the wooden frame of the board. Paint the edges of the board in a color that matches your color scheme. Using a strong glue that will bond the paper and cork, glue the poster into the frame of the board. Reinforce this by stapling around the edges. Here's where those old dishes come in. Dishes and glass knick knacks should be sorted by color. Put the separate colors into a separate pillow cases and using a hammer smash them. Proceed to glue the pieces into the picture using the color guide provided. On some you may need to fill in the edges. I suggest white pottery for this. When you fill in all the spaces, you will have an amazing piece of art, which you created yourself for under $10. And that's just the beginning! You can make all kinds of creative home decor with a little time and thought.

Recycling is an effective decorating technique that also costs a lot less. Your old clothes can be made into throw pillow covers. Instead of throwing them out, select clothing items with a nice color, cut them in shapes that will fit your pillows, whether round, square or rectangular. One other good idea is to make them into throw pillows if you still haven't got any. Match two similar cut shapes, sew the fabrics closed on one side leaving the other end open and fill it with Polyfill. Sew it closed and you now have a throw pillow. If you don't have any old clothes with a color or print of your liking, it is affordable to purchase fabrics. You can choose your favorite prints and shades.

Area rugs are sought-after home decors that are reasonably priced and highly accessible. With the savings you'll get from making your own decors and shopping from thrift stores, you can invest in area rugs for every room in the house. Even with a limited budget, you'll find affordable rugs in excellent quality to adorn your home. Whatever theme and motif you have, you will find rugs in suitable colors, shapes and sizes. The designs vary as well, so you'll have a diverse assortment to select from. Area rugs are more than just pretty decors to enhance your living spaces. Money-wise, you'll be saving in the years to come, as rugs are cheaper and easier to maintain than the pricier expenses of keeping carpet flooring.

Coloring Concrete Transforms Boring Concrete To Beautiful Stone

By Joel Jamison

Concrete is known for its durability and easy maintenance, but not for its looks. Most homeowner think there is nothing to do with the dull eyesore that are concrete floors. However, there are actually a ton of options when it comes to making your floors more visually appealing.

If you are sick and tired of looking at gray concrete everyday, then consider some of these concrete coloring techniques.

Acid Staining Integral Color Water Based and Solvent Based Dyes Water Based Penetrating Stain Dry Shake Color Hardeners

Any of these steps will remove that ghostly gray appearance and make your concrete surfaces sparkle with new life and radiant color. There are colors that are available in many different tones and hues such as warm terra cottas, smoky blues, buttercup yellows, and antique green. Coloring concrete can give you a one-tone effect or you can have a marbled pattern that adds a fresh new dimension to the finished product.

Integral coloring is achieved when special pigments are used in the concrete to be poured, and many different shades can be selected. Dry shake color hardeners are applied to the poured concrete and blended in with trowels, so the depth of coloring achieved with this method is more limited.

Dyes and Water Based Stains can penetrate into the concrete to give your concrete color but there is no chemical reaction involved to enhance the absorption and depth of color. The best and most intense coloring results from using acid stains for concrete.

When you use an acid concrete stain you actually change the physical composition of the concrete. This allows a full transformation of texture and color that makes you never know that it was originally regular concrete. In fact, many people will probably mistake your floors for being expensive marble. Also, if a sealer and wax is used the color will most certainly outlast you.

Budget Friendly Room Design

By Leon Willis

Re-designing your room doesn't have to be expensive. Sometimes you just need a fresh coat of paint or even newer dcor added into your room. Here are a few budget friendly tips on how to make a facelift on an existing style without putting a hole in your pocket.

No matter what time of the year, paint can instantly give a room an entirely new look. Paint is fairly affordable and can be utilized in various ways to give a room new color and even hone your theme and style decorating skills. Choose one wall of the room and paint it with the color of your choice without thinking of the rest of the room. Add some style to a painted empty wall with the use of faux paint techniques or stencils and stamps.

Adding slip covers on existing furniture in a room can make the furniture appear like new pieces. Also painting a table which is a basic wood color to a black or even an off white will make that simple piece of furniture more modern.

Adding an area rug to any room which is carpeted already or has hardwood floors will add a drastic change to the entire feel of the room. With an area rug, you'll have options for patterns or even shapes to add texture into your dcor. Area rugs are a great choice if you are living in a rental unit or even an apartment building since you sometimes can't make permanent changes. They are very inexpensive which means you can purchase two to switch the dcor up as often as you'd like.

Adding decorative pillows is another great way to add color and change to a room. Placing pattern pillows on solid colored furniture will create a great color palette and design.

Decorative pillows can be cheap and even available at yard sales for nearly nothing. They can also soften up a look of a room without making it feel too cluttered.

Pillows don't necessarily need to be used in living rooms or bedrooms. You can add them near the fireplace on the floor for extra seating and also a cozier feeling for guests. They also can brighten up a room's appearance.

Mirrors are also another inexpensive item you can purchase for your room. You can place them on the wall making a design as some come or just placing a larger one on the biggest wall. This would then be the focal point. If you have a room you are remodeling and it has a fireplace, place a great mirror above this to enhance room's brightness.

Emergency Plan

By Eric Vanderham

Every person and family should have established their own individual emergency plan based on future possibilities of unexpected catastrophes such as forces of nature. Many of us live in locations prone to earthquakes, Midwest tornadoes, southern hurricane seasons, flood zones, tsunami coastal areas, and even active volcanoes. The students learn what to do in the school building if an earthquake strikes, but we need a pro-action emergency plan for our home environment.

The list you should go through with your children and spouse or partner would ideally cover the following concerns:

- contact persons nearby and out of town.

- health information and where documents are stored.

- a designated meeting place to reunite with family members.

- a person designated to pick up your child or family if you are unable to.

- the location of the gas valve, electrical box, water valve, fire extinguishers, floor drain.

- the decisions involving pet safety, what to do with them, and the priority of personal safety before pet safety, which can be a touchy subject for those who love their pets like family.

Times to call 9-1-1. Your family needs to be know when to use this remarkable service. Those times to call are when reporting crimes, reporting fires and when saving a life.

In the event of an emergency, stay tuned to the radio and television for alerts and evacuation plans, have your emergency kit ready to go, and follow your plan.

One important mistake we make is forgetting about designated someone to pick up family members. Children should be assigned a password, in order for them to know when it is okay to go with someone else. This password should be frequently tested in order to ensure they do not forget it. They need to know they cannot share this password with anyone. Its very funny providing scenarios and seeing them handle themselves with a password, but in real life, it is not funny if they are vulnerable to leave with someone they shouldnt. Practice scenarios so they know what to do regardless of what the person tells them.

The 72-hour emergency plan is a worldwide disaster planning phrase that allows people to think of what they would need for the initial three day period and to be absolutely ready and stocked with supplies for that time period.

Having an emergency plan also includes identifying safe areas in the home in the event such as an earthquake or a tornado. Identify the most heavy furniture to drop under, how to cover your head and torso to protect from flying objects and heavy items falling, windows and outer walls to stay away from. When outdoors, keep away from trees, walls, power lines and buildings. If you are in a car, keep off of bridges, away from buildings, power lines, and park the car off the side of the road until the tremors have stopped.

Radio Stations " a shortwave radio with antenna should have 3 - 12 mhz, decent radio should be able to pick up on AM 530 " 1710 khz, FM 88 " 108 mhz.

Television Stations " VHF channels and Weather Alert channels.

LED Lighting: The New Kid on the Block

By Tom Sanderrs

LED or light emitting diode lights are just like any other bulb and convert electricity into light. They do however contain a special circuit so that they use less energy and last a lot longer than regular light bulbs. They also use the advantage of reflectors to enhance their output.

There are a number of advantages in using LED lighting:

LED lights have been around for about 40 years and were originally used as small instrument lights like the ones you might have seen in an aircraft. They have progressed to domestic and business use as a very reliable source of light that is energy efficient while at the same time providing superior light output. As the world starts to look for alternatives to save energy, LED lights have gained a very strong following and will probably take over from traditional bulbs in the future.

LED's last around ten times longer than traditional bulbs and common speculation is that they may last 40 years in certain circumstances. For many industrial uses, the cost of bulb replacement exceeds the material cost of the bulb, so LEDs have a strong following.

More light: as mentioned the bulbs have reflectors to increase their brilliance. For this reason they produce more illumination than regular bulbs. This is useful for areas in your home where you need more light.

LED lighting can be used in a number of ways, here are a few:

Strip lighting under cabinets: cabinets can create dark areas around counters and work spaces in kitchens. This can be dangerous as well as unhygienic, making it difficult to work and clean. Some intelligently placed LED lights will create the light needed and enhance the look and feel of any kitchen or similar work area.

Reading lights: LED lights point in one direction, making them ideal as reading lamps. They generate a much brighter light which also makes them the perfect choice for late night reading marathons.

Highlights: Directional lights like LEDs are perfect for highlighting decorative pieces and as reading lamps. They can generate atmosphere to a normally cold room by highlighting areas that draw attention.

Landscaping lighting: the directional light from LED lighting can be used for entertainment decks. They can highlight certain areas of the deck or can be used in a more general way to just illuminate the deck. They can also be used for accentuating parts of the yard.

Different colors: LED lighting comes in many different colors. This can create a different atmosphere for various rooms in your house. You can also use different hues for displays in your business. The use of colored lighting can be used very effectively on your deck. It might even be a source of conversation when you entertain.

As you can see LED lighting is the illumination of the future. You save energy, get better lighting and do not have to change your light bulbs as often. In short you are saving money on a superior product. So when you are looking for new lighting concepts for your home it is worth your while to do some research into LED lighting.

Feng Shui And Flowing of Chi

By Bobby Li

Chi is considered to be the most important principle of feng shui. It is the entire purpose that one adopts this decorating technique for because when you use feng shui, you are trying to optimize the flowing of the chi throughout the room. Chi is the energy which every single object gives off. That chi will be radiated from these objects and will pick up on currents which move throughout the space. Opening up the passage ways of this current will play a large part in making the chi move successfully through a room.

The flow of chi is determined by many natural factors. Some objects will evoke more chi than others and some objects will block the chi instead of helping it to pass by and flow. Figuring out what these objects are and placing them in areas where they will help the flowing of the room is crucial. One of the best ways that the flow can help to be determined is by how well any one person can move throughout the room.

If the objects in a room are so arranged that you need to maneuver to get around, it is not conducive to good chi. This prevents the room from getting fresh chi or fresh energy anytime that you are in the room, you will begin to feel aggravated and blocked. This goes from every source from the arrangement of the furniture to the clutter which may be situated around the room. The more clutter that is in the path, the more maneuvering you will have to do to move around and the more the flow of the chi will be blocked.

Chi is also affected by the textures and shapes existent in the room. But as chi is determined by factors like the arrangement of objects, it can also be relieved by some things. A good point is the function of area rugs. A cold, uncomfortable floor can affect the smooth flow of chi. However, opposing this not so good feeling with an area rug as a floor cover can give the chi a push to flow better.

Make sure that the furniture are well placed and not in any way blocking your path. Because if you are blocked, then it means the chi is stuck as well, and no fresh chi is flowing in the room.

Your intuition will be able to detect how well the chi flows in a room. Air currents move softly through a room and even if this is not something one could normally observe on their own, in the back of one's mind, they should be able to detect this. This will have an influence on the flow of the room and can help to make a space which is inviting for anyone.

Importance of Bird House Placement

By William Bigelow

I can remember building my first bird house when I was a kid, and excitedly attaching it to the side of a tree in my backyard. For months afterwards I would peek in at the bird house, but there were never any birds in it. I bought this house as a kit, so I was sure it was the correct dimensions and had the proper sized hole. Needless to say, I was very disappointed, and confused as to why no birds were inhabiting the house.

Looking into the tree that the bird house was mounted to, I could see a bird nest far up in the tree, nestled in the crook of a branch. Why would a bird make a exposed nest high up in the tree, instead of in my covered bird house, with a roof over their heads? Well, now that I'm older and wiser, I know my mistakes.

First, the nest I was looking at up in that tree was a cup nest. Birds who build cup nests don't raise their young inside a cavity-style nest (like a bird house). Second, my bird house was set at eye level. That is, the eye-level of a small kid, about four feet off the ground. Most birds won't live in a nest quite so low. Third, it was located near a gate which led into and out of the backyard, and my friends and I went in and out of that gate plenty of times almost everyday, so its no wonder birds tended to stay away from that area. Fourth, this was a tree next to our house, with a narrow space, maybe six feet wide, in between. The bird house faced our house. This didn't give the birds much of a clear flight path to their house.

So here's what I learned:

1. Build an appropriate bird house for the type of bird you want to attract.

2. Place the bird house at the appropriate height.

3. The bird house should be located in a low-traffic area.

4. Keep a clear flight path to the house.

While I might have had more success following some of the general guidelines for placement of the bird house and avoiding the pitfalls mentioned above, I still might not have received any feathered tenants. As I've learned, each species of bird has specific criteria that a bird house must meet, including proper placement of the house, if they are to select one in which to raise their young.

My first mistake, therefore, was not knowing what kind of bird the house was for. It is possible the birds the house was designed for didn't even live in the area! Assuming I had known the bird species the house was for, I should have done some research to determine the best placement of the house. I might have found that I didn't have any adequate locations to place the bird house, or I might have found a location that would be far more enticing to the birds.

Learn from my mistakes. Do your homework and, while there is never any guarantee that bird family will make its home in your bird house, you can increase the likelihood considerably.

Garage Floors And Why You Should Protect Them

By Jason Stlotnik

Some of the best garage floor ideas will be about protecting the floor and making it look better. If you want to take your garage to the next level, fitting it with a protective cover is the way to do it. When you compare a garage with a sealed and protected floor to one without, you will quickly notice the garage with the finished floor looks much better than the one that is not finished.

The best garage floor ideas depend on what you have in mind for your floors. Some people settle on putting rubber mats on the floor while others choose to seal it with a floor sealant. If you want to spruce up the garage a little bit and make it more attractive looking, you can do that with wall to wall garage floor rubber mats that have a design on them.

If you are trying to protect your garage floor from the water, dirt, and ice, you should consider sealing your floor with any of a variety of sealers. By sealing your floors and protecting them with a covering, you will be on well your way to making them last longer.

If you are going to be finishing your garage floor, you might also consider some vinyl garage floor ideas. Installing a vinyl floor is relatively easy and will do wonders to protect the garage floor. Vinyl has a soft surface feel so your floor will not be as hard as concrete and much safer for any children to play on. The vinyl will also help cover up any cracks in the concrete and it will also protect your garage from snow, ice, dirt, and leaves which can be easily be swept out. There are many floor surface options to think about when redoing your garage floor and vinyl should be up at the top of the list.

Most garage floors are made of concrete and it often cracks after a year or two. By putting a covering of some sort over your concrete garage floor, you can often hide those cracks. Your garage floors are always susceptible to damage as the elements from outside are brought in every time you park your car. That in addition to any oil spills make you wonder whether having some garage floor protection might be worth it in the long run.

While cosidering your garage flooring options, you might want to think about how much you want to spend. Most people don't want to spend too much on their garage floors because they are just the garage floors and who really cares about the floor of a garage? But if you protect your garage floor properly and prevent any upfront damage, you might be saving money in the future on expensive repair costs.

Try Container Vegetable Gardening for a Bumper Crop

By Kim Allarie

It's surprising that more people don't take advantage of container vegetable gardening, since it's one of the best ways to grow plants. Saving space is the greatest benefit of container vegetable gardening. Many people live in apartments or in homes with very little yard space. Container gardening allows you to have a vegetable garden on your porch or patio, or even indoors.

Some people have these gardens in their sunroom, in the kitchen window, or even in the window of a spare bedroom. Others utilize a closet space to grow plants by using a grow light.

You'll also find that vegetable container gardening brings with it the benefit of being able to easily move your plants. If there is bad weather coming, it makes it simple to bring outdoor plants inside so they will be out of the elements. Also, if you find that there is too much sun on your plants or not enough, you can easily move them to a location that works better. And you can easily move containers around if you think they'll look better somewhere else.

Vegetables grown in containers don't contract diseases as easily compared to plants grown directly in the soil. It's true that plants grown in containers can still become infected with diseases, but you will find the probability is much less than if you had grown them in your landscape. Potting soil is generally free of disease-causing organisms, so your plants will be safer.

It's easier to feed your vegetables when they're in a container. You can make sure that the fertilizer you put in with the plants will get to them. When you use fertilizer on plants in traditional gardens, often it will end up going to other plants or just drain away. When the plants are in containers, this is not as likely to happen.

Of course, when the soil area is relatively small, there is a chance the fertilizer can be washed out of the soil faster. Because of this, you do need to fertilize more often than you would a traditional vegetable garden. But you can rest assured that your plants are probably getting more of the fertilizer before it does wash away than they would if they were in the ground.

The growing season is extended when your vegetables are grown in containers. You can keep the soil of your potted plants warmer by wrapping them in blankets or any other insulating materials. Your plants can be started sooner indoors or in a cold frame and then be transported outdoors to larger pots when the weather is more permitting. The right use of insulation can allow you to keep growing your vegetables outside even after the first frost. Also, you can easily bring the plants inside if it gets too cold for them to be outside, even if they are well insulated.

Of course one great benefit of using container vegetable gardens is that it makes gardening easy and accessible for everyone. People who are dealing with disabilities often find that it is much easier to go with a container garden, since they can put the plants where they can get to them easily. Those who are in wheelchairs often find that putting their plants on low tables makes it easier to get to them. Even those who are elderly, who find it hard to work in a traditional garden, can enjoy container gardening. Even children find container gardening to be much easier than traditional vegetable gardening, because they don't have to weed, rake and hoe, and they don't have to have an adult till the soil for them.

If your space is limited for vegetable gardening in a traditional landscape, then using pots instead is a great alternative to allow you to enjoy your plants.

History of Hydroponics Gardening

By Paul J. Easton

History reveals that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon is a big evidence of a hydroponic garden. Moreover, the Aztec Indians in the now Mexico had a system of growing crops on rafts. These rafts are in shallow lakes that you can still see in floating gardens near Mexico City. Therefore, history shows the great significance of hydroponic system of growing plants even in ancient times.

Developments with hydroponics did not however take place in Europe until 1699 when Woodward discovered it. He found out that he can grow plants in a solution of water to which soil had been added.

On the other hand, Liebig, a German scientist, originated using nutrient solutions to study the nutritional requirements of plants in the 1850's. It was then followed by Sachs in 1860. Knop also did some studies of nutrient elements in water solutions in 1861. They grew plants in nutrients-rich solutions with mineral salts. This does away with the soil as a main requirement for growing crops.

Many researches on the nutritional requirements of plants extended through even until the 1870's. By 1925, practical applications of hydroponics were being introduced for the vast development in the greenhouse industry.

The next decade followed with the wide growth as scientists grown mindful of the prospective development of producing hydroponically to sustain the food supply with rapid growth in population. Developments remained and the commercial use of hydroponics opened worldwide gradually. But it was the N.F.T. method by Dr Alan Cooper in the 1970's, along with improved nutritional formulations, that successfully made the hydroponic growing of a wide range of plants commercially possible.

Hydroponics has grown rapidly since the Aztecs and it has become an important method of producing crops in areas of the World where water is precious and land futile for growing plants. With conscious, well maintained hydroponic crops, we can be assured that farming high quality crops can be environment-friendly for tomorrow.

Why Are Shutters So Popular on Homes?

By Gus Kopalinski

Do most houses have shutters that really work or are they there just for decoration? Many houses have what are called decorative shutters that look great but aren't really shutters. They are made to look like the real thing but they really don't work at all. If you take a close look at most house shutters, you will find the majority of them are just for there for decoration.

Real working shutters, on the other hand, can provide real protection from wind, rain, and sun. In some of the states where hurricanes are a threat, homeowners install storm shutters and hope they are strong enough to protect the windows and house from very strong winds. Most houses though, don't have a need for real working shutters and the homeowners just like the shutters look.

Shutters can come in a variety of styles and colors and can be tailored to give a house a vintage look. They can also come in more modern styles. All in all, decorative shutters are a great way that is relatively inexpensive to add a little flair to the outside of a house. Many people who own houses realize that with very little out of pocket cost, they can raise the "curb appeal" of their house.

Exterior wooden shutters are what most people initially want for their homes when they start investigating shutters. But wood is not the only material that exterior shutters can be made out of and in fact, it is one of the least durable. Outside shutters can be made of fiberglass, vinyl, composite, and aluminum materials many of which stand up to the elements better than real wood. The fact is that all those materials can be made to look just like wood and in many cases they wont warp and wear like real wood will.

This fact makes other materials often times a better choice for exterior shutters than real wood. Additionally, since most exterior shutters are only for decoration, they are never actually over the windows and are just mounted on the sides of the house. This mounting process is quite easy to do. The only time most people house shutters is from a distance and it is very hard to tell the difference between a real wood shutter and one made of another material.

Drip Irrigation: Proper Drip Irrigation Systems for Your Garden

By Erich

Irrigation systems are designed with a purpose of supplying an adequate amount of water to garden plants in a timely manner. Therefore, it is important to design and install an irrigation system as the better irrigation solution.

Several irrigation techniques are developed with the advent of modern technology, which use as little water as possible giving satisfactory positive results. Drip irrigation is such powerful and efficient watering method. So, purchase drip irrigation supplies from the store and install suitable drip irrigation systems in your garden.

There are two types of systems available such as sprinkler/spray head and drip or trickle irrigation systems for supplying water to the crops or vegetations in the garden.

The most common and popular types of systems developed especially for large areas of crop or lawn are sprinkler type systems. You can have permanent fixed sprinkler heads or moving or movable spray head/sprinkler systems that make your watering task easy.

Most of the large irrigation systems are divided into many independent irrigation/watering zones. Such zone is a group of sprinklers or emitters all can be controlled together at the same time. Pump and delivery pipe-work should be capable of supplying at least one such zone with water at any time.

It is because, there is not always enough pressure/flow to run sprinklers for an entire yard at once, therefore, it is important to have watering zones for your irrigation systems. Moreover, for each zone, there has to be a solenoid valve on it, which is controlled via wire by a controller.

Irrigation systems are high-risk when it comes to the possibility of potable water contamination. Sprinkler heads and other components can allow contaminants like fertilizers, pesticides or pet feces into water supplies, and therefore, back-flow prevention devices are used to eliminate such hazards.

For drip irrigation systems, there are several plus-points. More importantly, they provide constant moisture to the garden plants without making them saturated. Because, they involve water slowly water supply, which goes directly to the soil. Therefore, this dripping method of irrigation is considered to be highly efficient watering solutions.

Get hold of drip irrigation kits. They will allow you to water your plants separately with emitters, or water groups of plants with micro-spray stakes/tapes that ooze water along the entire length.

Unfortunately, drip emitters have certain drawbacks as they are easily plugged by silt or other particles not filtered out of the water. Moreover, the emitter blockages might be caused by growing in the tape and/or by chemical deposits at the emitter head.

So, for drip irrigation systems, there has to be fine filtration and higher water quality compared to sprinklers. If it is surface water source such as ditch and reservoir, you need to use high quality filtration stages. If it is a borehole source, then less filtration is required.

Sprinklers water unevenly, waste water, and are hard to reconfigure. Sprinkler irrigation systems, if you think, are one of the most used watering systems worldwide.

You see, most landscape plants will typically dry out quickly. Some plants are appropriate in one climate and might not work well in another. Any skilled operator of an irrigation system will ensure you that his/her garden plants always receive the proper amount of water for optimum crop, and landscape planting growth.

Digital Cameras Are Environmentally Safe Bits of Technology

By Nick Kusina

Digital cameras are utilized by each and every person around the world today. Digital cameras are far better than ordinary cameras. There are some shortcomings in operating a standard camera whilst digital cameras give improved functioning. We can take the digital cameras with us to each and every site we visit and we can view the picture and capture the snap. The positive aspect in using this class of camera is that it doesn't bring about any form of transformation to the surroundings. Various commerces have launched creating diverse classes of digital cameras with a minimal price so that it will be affordable by all.

Digital cameras work with a software which stores the images in the memory and there is a detector which allows adjustment of the photos. It's simple to transfer the images to different software systems.

The use of regular cameras triggers pollution to the environment in various ways. They are:

When we use these cameras we have to proceed photo film processing centre for developing the film.

To turn a film into a photograph, there are various working steps.

To rinse the photo films, we should make use of several elements. These chemicals comprise of fixer solutions plus developer solutions. This sort of mixtures used in the film processing centres is exceedingly dangerous.

When the developing process is compete, the compounds are tossed to the milieu. This triggers air befoulment which is extremely insidious for the survival of humanity.

In the hefty chemical institutes, they are commanded to abide by the measures established by the committee. Whilst the photo centre are small businesses thence they don't ought to follow the rules and ordinances.

At times, these throwaway mixtures subsequent to their usage are disposed into the river, which instigates water pollution. When these chemicals integrate with the drinking water, they are very harmful to our health. And will also obliterate the products when farmers use the river water for irrigation.

The preceding noted shortcomings are not experienced in the digital cameras. But we make use of inkjet printers for publishing the photo replicate from the digital system. We may deem that also this inkjet chemical will disturb the surroundings. These chemicals are not discarded into the milieu. And some persons may think of the batteries we utilise in these cameras. As the batteries also contain the elements that are bad to the individuals. To overpower these problems at the present time we have rechargeable batteries so that discarding of batteries can be forestalled.

The benefit of making use of digital cameras is:

The primary consideration in using a digital camera is their operation. The images can be conducted to the sensing elements in many digital systems.

We can develop the wanted snap shots alone, it's not needed to develop all the photographs.

We can make many snaps given that the memory ability is certainly big.

We can also shoot video recordings in the digital cameras.

The use of rechargeable batteries will increment the utilization time speedily.

We are able to look at the pictures in all the digital systems.

It is trouble-free to carry to all the views. But we should be tremendously mindful in bringing it close to water bodies.

Getting the most out of your living room design

By Max Tiller

Any space can look good on paper but can often change once you actually get all of the pieces together. Everything may have worked in your head but once you actually get it into practice, you will find that sometimes it is not entirely compatible. This is why you may want to plan the way you use space in your living room in a way that will help to open the room up, designating certain areas of the room for certain activities. This can help to make sure that everyone in the room will feel comfortable while they are spending time in it.

Many living room spaces are large and open and this is the way that we want them to be. If the room was smaller and cramped, we might feel uncomfortable in it and this is the direct opposite of what we want the room to be. Using the space to our advantage is the most important part of arranging the room to make it work. Generally, a living room is used for a variety of activities. You are going to want to make sure that you can provide a location for all of those activities to comfortably take place.

Do you have your television in the living room? This means that you will not only want to have the television be in a prime focal point of the room, but you will want to have enough seating arranged in a way that everyone will be able to see the television from their location. A sofa is the most common type of seating to enjoy the television from, as it can accommodate a number of people all facing in one direction. Armchairs are also commonly used for television viewing.

Don't forget to have something by those seats that people can place food or drinks on. Most of the time this is a normal thing in the living room, you need to have it as comfortable as possible. And you will avoid more accidents this way by having a steady place for people to set their items on a table, instead of the old habit of putting a drink on the floor beside you where you are sitting and knocking it over accidentally.

Living rooms can also be the place where you go to read a book and just relax. For that it would be a good idea to have either a nice armchair, or even an ottoman. You will need to either add some color by use of an area rug, or some paint on the walls. Try not to crowd too much furniture in the living room though this may only have you with limited space and a crowded area.

These changes to the living room will not need to be expensive you can check out thrift stores or other places for some good bargains. Just redo the furniture you have either with paint or a reupholster job.

Using a Color Scheme in Your Room

By Dan Hogan

When you set about to design a room, one of the most important things that you will need to tackle will be the color scheme you are going to use. The color scheme will set the entire mood of the room, making it into a light and happy place or a more serious place that you can use to get work done. Of course, you will want all of the objects that you are putting into the room to work well, so you may wish to begin selecting your color scheme by using an object which you already have and plan to include.

If the object has a pattern, you have it rather easily set. Items with patterns already have a color palate included and you can use this to help you establish the rest of the room. This can be anything from pillows to drapes, area rugs to wall decoration. Any items which include different colors can be used to help you set the color palate which you will base the rest of the room around.

Three colors is the best way to start a room's color scheme. It either can come from a great pillow or even a drape to determine which colors will best suite that room. Try choosing something from the dark family, light family, and in-between to give your room a great color palette. This will give your eyes a great balance without making you feel overwhelmed.

The lightest color that you choose will be set to be the background of the room, hopefully the colors of the walls. This is usually not hard to achieve because most rental spaces come with white walls and white is the lightest color you can find. Therefore, when you choose the light color, you should find something as close to white as possible because it can provide a great background for the rest of the room to exist against.

That middle color you chose can be used for the linens and also the area rug. This will balance out the lighter walls and make those items stand out more. Placing decorative pillows around the room and on the furniture pieces in the lighter color will also help balance out the existing furniture's pattern.

Finally is the darker color of them all. This should be used towards the accessories added into the rooms theme. It is easier to remove darker pieces rather than having to paint over them if it was on the walls. Try adding darker lamp shades and pillows to tie the theme together. Choosing a pattern to give you a great color palette is the best way to go if you don't have anything in mind.

How to Get Hold of Great Looking Executive Office Furniture

By Adam Peters

There used to be a time when only the top most executives of a company could aspire towards great looking executive office furniture or a white leather office chair and other workers or employees would spend years craving for the luxury of rich and classy looking office furniture. However, today the scenario has changed and all you need to possess is a reasonable amount of money to purchase the executive office furniture that you dream of.

If you are wondering how this has been made possible, then you have to thank the burgeoning of online companies that sell executive office furniture to people at relatively discounted prices. The internet has revolutionized the way we live and the availability of furniture that we would like in our office setting is just one manifestation of it. The fact behind the discounted prices of online companies is that these companies do not have to spend money on office premises or the maintenance of a physical store and so they can afford to sell at a lower price. In addition, many of these online office furniture websites also do not charge for shipping if you have purchased a large quantity of furniture.

What makes these online companies even more attractive is that different designs and carvings along with stunning wood tones are made available to customers. Options such as creating your own set of furniture with the help of varied pieces are also possible with these companies. In fact, some websites that deal with executive office furniture provide unique pieces that are not to be easily found in physical stores. With the help of such furniture, you can give a distinct look to your office. If you pay special attention to the front reception desk in this aspect, it will ensure that customers and visitors are specially impressed by your office. Most online companies also have sleek whiteboards on sale that are a must have in any company.

A word of caution is necessary, though. In their enthusiasm to get hold of classy looking and discounted executive office furniture, many people end up dealing with unreliable online companies. You should try and avoid such a trap. To make sure that you are dealing with a reputable company, you should approach online communities that are to be found on chat rooms or forum boards for information. Friends and family members can also help you in your search for good online furniture companies. Finally, if you come across any offer that seems too good to you, it is better to beware rather than get carried away. You can verify the credentials of the company by referring to the Better Business Bureau's website. This should give you a good idea and guide you in the right direction be it for an office desk or a white leather office chair.

When you buy a piece of cast iron cookware it will need curing; here are the secrets to success

By Stephen Kember

Curing is a very simple process, which it's important you do properly; this process applies to all non cured cast iron pans.

Why do we cure or season cast iron cookware?

Curing helps cast iron cookware avoid becoming rusty and as a bonus, because it coats the cookware, it stops food from sticking to it. A well seasoned ' Dutch oven is the perfect non stick pan!

But let me step back a minute. Perhaps you haven't bought a new piece of cast iron cookware, maybe you've picked up an old piece that was a real bargain at the local market. Or perhaps you've found Grandmother's old skillet lying forlorn in the garden shed. Whatever, fear not, in almost any state a quality piece of cast iron cookware is nearly always suitable for simple renovation and subsequent curing.

Before considering new cookware, lets start with your old piece of cast iron cookware. First give it a really good rub down with light sandpaper such that you can see the original surface.

Now, at this stage, whether you have a new piece of cast iron cookware or you're renovating an old one we come to the curing step.

Before going any further, whether you have an old item of cookware or new, its really important to wash your oven with hot soapy water. Wash it really thoroughly, both inside and out, no matter how shinny & clean you may think it may look.

Now warm up your item of cookware. Do this ideally in a charcoal grill or if not available in the oven, at 200 degrees. A charcoal grill heated up outdoors is preferred, because of the odors and usually some smoke that comes off the cookware and which can linger.

When its warmed up put on your oven gloves and spread Crisco on all surfaces, both the inside and outside of the cookware; as alternatives, oil, shortening or lard will do the same job as Crisco.

After fully coating the piece of cookware place it back into the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

After 1 hour let the cast iron remain on the grill until the charcoal goes out. or if its in the household oven let it cool down inside the oven as the oven naturally cools. Never try to cool cast iron rapidly it can seriously damage it.

Once its cooled, thats it, you're done; your cookware is now ready for cooking.

But this isn't the end of the curing. Curing will continue to takes place over the cookware's full lifetime. But for this to be so, after each occasion that its used, its important to follow a simple ritual, as follows:

1. After using the cookware you must wash your cookware; don't listen to old wives tales saying that you shouldn't, its not hygienic.

2. First get rid of all spent food with a paper towel, then wash it in warm soapy water.

3. Using paper towels wipe the pan and leave it to dry.

4. When its dry wipe a little light oil or shortening, or lard all the cookware, absolutely everywhere, without exception! And don't forget the legs, the handle, the lid.

All done! Keep up this ritual and soon your cookware will have a beautiful dark hue revealing a well loved piece of cookware; and even better you'll find that it is remarkably easy to keep clean.

But here is a cautionary note:NEVER EVER use metal tools or heavy scourers or wire scrubbers or brushes on your cast iron cookware or you will ruin your seasoning. By doing so you will make scratches all over the cured surface; food will get into the scratches, which in turn will burn and cause your cooking to stick. This will mean that you no longer have a non stick pan and your cooking experience will be rubbish only improved by once again starting the curing process right from the beginning!

Installing a bathroom fan

By Larry Angell

Bathroom fan installation is important in homes to reduce excessive moisture that can cause damage to paint and walls. The time to plan for a bathroom fan system is while the wall and ceiling framing members are still exposed from remodeling or new construction.

Most bathroom exhaust fans have a metal box that has to be installed between the ceiling rafters or floor joists. The bathroom fan will fit into this box as part of the finish work or appliance installation.

The ceiling or attic is the best place to run the exhaust vent. A dryer vent hose makes the best vent because of its flexibility and low cost. One end of the flex hose attaches to the outlet in the metal box with a large hose clamp. The other end of the exhaust vent will lead to an opening in the roof or the soffit.

There are different types of exhaust fans available for different needs. If its a simple bathroom fan, then you can use a single light switch to turn it on and off. If theres a light and heater with the fan, then youll need to use three different switches to control each component. There are some nice looking triple switches that work well for these types of fixtures.

Be sure to turn off the breaker at the breaker box and make sure that other people in the house know what youre doing with electricity.

Lets say were wiring a light and fan combination. We can use 12-3 NM sheathed cable which has three wires and a ground wire. From the switch well need to have the circuit wires to provide the power. We will run the 12-3 cable from the switch box to the fan. There will be a red wire, a black wire, and a white wire, along with a copper ground wire.

Well use a double light switch that fits into a regular-sized switch box. The 12-3 Romex cable that runs from the fan box to the switch can be wired first if you want. You will need to connect the red wire to one of the hot screws on the switch. The black wire can be connected to the other hot screw usually on the same side of the receptacle.

The switch will also have a screw that attaches to the house current or circuit power. The black wire from the power circuit will connect to the switch giving it power. The white wire from the house circuit power and the white wire from the fan can be combined together with a wire nut. You can also combine the copper ground wires together with a wire nut. Tuck all the wires into the switch box neatly and secure the switch in place with screws.

Next, youll do the wiring for the light and fan with the 12-3 cable. There will be four wires with this fixture that control the different components. The red wire from the fan will connect to the red wire from the 12-3 Romex cable. There will be a black wire from the fan light assembly. It will connect to the black wire from the power cable. The white wire will be joined together with the other white wire and the ground copper wire can be joined together with the cable ground wire with a wire nut.

Install the fan assembly into the metal box with the attachment screws. Switch the breaker on to make sure that each component works when you turn them on.

Highly Recommended: Living A Green Lifestyle

By Christine Nunez

Using natural area rugs can be considered a trend. The worldwide campaigns for environmental protection and fight against global warming have penetrated the consciousness of many. Opting for eco-friendly products like area rugs made of natural materials and manufactured in methods not harmful in any way to the environment is applauded - it's responsible, good, beneficial and so vogue.

Decorative items made of natural materials and processed the non-toxic way are not less impressive as the conventional products. In fact, they are worthy of admiration for more than just their beauty, but also for their contribution to the environment. Natural area rugs for instance, are allowing environmentally conscious homeowners to adorn their homes with decors without harming the environment.

Recycled materials are also gaining followers. As people are becoming more aware of the importance of recycling and reusing, the use of decorative items at home is the same. There is less need to purchase brand new items. Renovating one's home can be synonymous to reusing and recycling decors and furniture, as well as upgrading materials by DIY methods such as painting, varnishing, upholstering, etc. instead of shopping for new ones.

Using natural area rugs is trendy! How can it not be when going green is now the latest craze? Hopefully, it will become everyone's lifestyle and not just a phase of interest.

Natural area rugs have been in existence even before my awareness to the environmental cause has started. For the last ten years, natural-made rugs have been doing their rounds in the consumer markets. I sure hope that they will not be going anywhere but to more stores and more homes. That the underlying reason for their existence will reach more people's awareness.

I don't think it will be impossible. These area rugs are great decors to have at home. The selections in colors, shapes, designs and patterns are huge! Even the sizes vary to fit any room space and area. The prices too can accommodate different budgets.

Bamboo and sisal area rugs are just two of the well-known natural area rugs. They look good in any room, but so are the other natural rugs. A green theme for your home is not a bad idea. Not at all.

The Need For Balance In Interior Design

By Gillian Roland

Your home's interior elements such as the theme, textures, colors and design will only achieve their maximum results if there is balance. A room in harmony with its elements is easy to the eyes. There is an immediate feeling of comfort and ease. Beauty is nothing when the feeling of "right" is absent from the room. With simple decors and colors, you can still create a beautiful living space when there is balance.

A large portion of balance in interior design relates to the size of the objects which occupy a room. There are many different factors which will play into bringing about a design which will work within a room, one of which is the size of the room itself. If a person is designing a space for a large room with tall ceilings, they will want to use objects which are on the larger size, to make the room a little smaller and more intimate. Likewise, if they are designing a space for a smaller room, they will want to use fewer objects which are shorter to give a better appearance of height to the room.

The same principle is applied to a small room. You would want to create a bigger place with your limited space by not overdoing it with the decors and furniture. In fact, it's advisable to stick to minimal objects and space-friendly furnishings.

Area rugs can be a great way to help fill out a room as they can provide a covering for the floor which stretches across the room. As pieces of furniture end up resting on these rugs, they will be brought closer together and unified through the common floor they share. These rugs can also help make a room warmer and more comfortable with the texture one feels under their feet.

Area rugs are great decors because of their versatility, functionality and flexibility. They do help a lot in making decorating much easier. The choice of colors, materials, texture and others depend on you. Whatever you feel is right for your living space and those that make you comfortable are important to have. A coordinated look is of course a given, if you want your place to look better. But every detail is up to you to decide.

Creating this balance will simply help to make the space more even and comfortable to the eye. This will end up playing a large part in how relaxed a room will end up being and can make all the difference when guests come to visit. If the room is too cramped, the people in it will feel crowded. If the space is too sparse, they will feel open and exposed. Finding that balance is the important part.
