Bedroom Furniture Purchase- Laying Down The Basics

By Kelly Kim

Buying bedroom furniture may sound like such an easy job but when you're about to drown in a sea of choices, it can get fairly challenging. This is the reason why you need to be planning out your purchase before in fact making one. Decisions that are done too quickly can lead you to spend unnecessarily. Worse, you could even regret what you end up with. Then you'll have to go through the hassle of returning or exchanging the product or, if that's too much trouble, you just deal with it for as long as it lasts which could be more annoying. Because you need to be sure about the bedroom furniture you buy, you have to sit down and decide on what you want and why you want it.

First on your list of deliberations would be your finances. If you're not working on any, then you can miss out this part. But if you're like the rest of us who have to work around some financial limits, you will have to make a decision first how much you're willing to use up. This way, you get frustrated at wanting something and realizing that you couldn't afford it. So first define up to how much the price should be and then work from there.

Once you've determined the cost, you'll have to think about whether you'd like to really redesign your bedroom, meaning, begin from scratch, or just add in or take out a few pieces. This is important because if you're going to do over the whole thing, you'll basically have more freedom exploring what designs you could consider. If you're just enhancing your current design, you have to stick to the theme that you've by now in put in place.

The third thing you might want to look into is the space that is available for the bedroom furniture you plan to purchase. This is quite basic as there are only two things to remember about space. First, less means more. No matter how much an antique jar costs, if it's lost in a whole maze of other pieces that's almost making it impossible for you to breathe, it just adds to the sore that your over designed bedroom interior has created. Second, whoever you're sharing that space with should be considered. If the room is all yours, then you rule from all corners.

Colors are another thing that you have to really spend time trying to make a good decision on. Remember that colors are the most basic elements that make a bedroom or any other room come alive. Regularly, you'll want colors that complement your personality. The reds and yellows and oranges work great for the bubbly, carefree types while the blues and greens and purples are for the more reserved and traditional.

Of course, the choice is wholly up to you. The other way of looking at colors could be to relate them to the mood that they'll probably create. Bright colors are of course happy colors while the dark ones may create calm, comforting mood.

Decorations For Spicing Up Your Home

By Mike Hanson

It's true that we can tell a lot about the person through her home. Personality is seen in the design and decorations. Outgoing people have more bold colors and flashy accessories while the more reserved ones have subtle colors and minimal decors.

This makes DIY home decorating a preferred option because of the creative liberty and personalized designing of the homeowners. With things you like and perhaps those you've hand-picked yourself, home life becomes more pleasurable.

Most homeowners nowadays are more practical in decorating. They prefer items that are both functional and decorative. Instead of just an ottoman, one that has storage is preferred. Boxes for keeping trinkets are also used as decorations. Area rugs are sought after pieces because they are both floor decors and floor coverings. Area rugs also make unique wall hangings.

Area rugs are truly one of the most functional and multi purpose home decor accessory. They protect your body and your floor. Area rugs also add to your theme. By using an area rug you can draw together the colors of your theme. In the case of a commercial theme, like that above, an area rug may allow you to add your theme to the floor. This is much preferable to stopping your theme at eye level and ignoring the floor.

Because of the availability of area rugs in various colors and design, it's not hard to match your existing accessories and to meet your favorite look for your home. Glass decors will look more sophisticated with a plush, light-colored area rug for example. A beach house themed home will look more realistic with bamboo-made rugs in earth colors.

Next time you redecorate remember that the essential aspect of every decor is your personality. If you do not follow your instincts you will not be happy with your new design. Try to pick a theme you are familiar with and build on it. You will be much more satisfied with the results, than if you simply throw together a look.

How To Incorporate Art Deco Into Your Home

By Melanie Potter

Everything old is new again. That saying holds true for Art Deco decorating which originated in the '20's and '30's and is currently experiencing a resurgence in many forms of home decor. Art Deco pulls much of its styling from the art that was popular at that time, Cubism and Futurism. Cubism was an avant-garde art movement that was headed by famous artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Cubist artworks usually involve breaking up the objects in a painting and reassembling them in an abstracted manner. The Futurism art movement began in Italy and emphasized industry and technology and how it was shaping the world. So now with a little history on Art Deco how can you use its design principles when decorating your home?

One of the most popular ways to incorporate this into today's decor is through patterns of zigzags and bold patterned shapes. There are unusual material used for this art like aluminum, stainless steel, and lacquered wood with inlay. You will want to use a neutral color on the walls to display the art and blend it in. Stencil around the tops of the walls toward the ceiling is also recommended.

Flooring can have linoleum on it but today this type of flooring is not as popular as it once was. Create this look using your hardwood floors or you can buy an area rug. Try buying one large area rug to place in the center of the room and compliment it with several little rugs all around.

With Art Deco you can see the woodwork through a light colored stain. It also has corners that are rounded instead of pointed. And the Art Deco look uses fabrics and materials like velvet and leather. Although window treatments can be expensive you can use just plain curtains or no curtains at all. Place a cornice box above the window to capture the Art Deco look in your window. Hang some mirrors that are unframed on the wall allowing the room to feel and look larger. You may want to purchase colored glass mirrors as well.

When it comes to lighting, keep in mind that during this era glass and chrome was in style. Today you can purchase wall mounted lights in a bowl or fan shape. These are the most popular fixtures sold in stores. You can use lamps but purchase shades that have fringe around the edges and the base is in the shape of a model or figurine.

You can have Art Deco in your home with careful planning and a strict budget.

Bedroom Furniture - Looking Out For Your Bed

By Kelly Kim

Your bed can looking out of you while you sleep, but how it does for the most part depends on how you take care of it while you're awake. As long as you give it the attention it deserves, it should continue to serve you like the king or queen you are while you're on it.

Caring for your bed is quite a simple task, but it has to begin from the time it lands in your home. The first you'll want to look into is the guide that it comes with. Read everything the manufacturer has written in that guide because no matter how basic the instructions may sound, they can make a lot of difference the moment you take them for granted. One thing you shouldn't miss doing upon removing the packaging of the bed is letting the thing breathe for a few hours before putting a mattress and beddings on it. While your bed may feel a little weird as you try to adjust to its new feel under your back, you should get the hang of it in no time.

No bed frame of terrific craftsmanship will make up for a mattress that doesn't feel good so make sure yours is a delight having. Give it time to air by removing your beddings each morning while keeping it away from direct heat.

Use only a soft brush for dusting, never a vacuum cleaner. Remove stains by wiping them off gently with a soft fabric but never with detergents as this could cause damage to the material. You can preserve the quality of the mattress' spring system by avoiding sitting on the edges too long. And don't forget to turn it as often as the manufacturer recommends. While a mattress could come with a "no-turn needed" tag, it should still be a good idea to rotate its position every now and then.

When it comes to caring for your bed, pillows are always included. Plumping them regularly will help to keep them soft and cushy for longer. Although an average pillow's comfortable life can go up to three years, they can last even longer when you care for them better.

Keeping your bed's frame safe and secure is a different way of caring for it, so make sure that all bolts, screws, legs and castors are tight in place. If you're using bed furniture with drawers, don't overload them as this could cause the drawers to unfasten or collapse.

The Value Of Deep Cleaning Your Carpets

By Jessica Morter

A nice carpet can add value to any home and it is one of the first things a person notices as they walk in. If your carpet is dirty and has stains on it, this will detract greatly from the rest of the house no matter how nice everything else is. It is important to take care of your carpets so they dont become a bigger expense than they have to.

Carpet manufacturers will advise that you get your carpets deep cleaned at least every 2 years. Cleaning them with a steam cleaner is different from the routine maintenance you should do that is vacuuming. Vacuuming just takes off some of the surface dirt while steam cleaning does a much more thorough job.

Carpets collect dirt, sand, oil, smoke and grease as you walk on it. These elements can scratch off the carpet protector and damage its fibers. Thus, a routine maintenance is required to free your carpet of these unwanted contaminates.

When you spend the time to maintain your carpet, it will help to protect and preserve its original sheen. Once you let your carpet become dirty, all the original luster will be gone and it is very difficult to get it back. Vacuuming your carpets frequently right from the beginning when they are new will help preserve their new look.

Regularly cleaning your carpets is also a matter of good health. Carpets are a gathering place for all sorts of potentially harmful toxins and a dirty carpet can lead to conditions such as asthma and other things. It is just smart to keep your carpet, which is almost everywhere in your house, clean so that your family will be able to live in a clean environment.

Carpets add ambience to your home. Having it cleaned on a regular basis not only protects your familys health, but prolongs the life of your carpet. The expensive cost of replacing it altogether is not a practical solution, especially with the current economic condition. You can maintain your carpets sheen by regular vacuuming and yearly maintenance of steam cleaning.

How To Use Compost Activator To Hasten Decomposition Of Compost Pile

By Ferdinand Emy

Composting can provide many benefits, but when you are first getting started, it can be somewhat confusing. It is a mixture of nutrients and micro-organisms. They are typically available in powder form and poured into holes within the compost pile. What is a compost activator and how does it benefit your compost? The compost activator is also sometimes referred to as a compost inoculate.

Herbal compost activators may contain such ingredients as dandelion, chamomile, yarrow, oak bark, nettle, valerian and honey. The pile will then be efficiently composted within one month to three months, depending on the time of year. There are also other types of natural compost activators that are produced from other materials such as comfrey leaves, chicken manure and grass clippings. You can choose to add compost activators to your compost pile when you first start it in order to give it a kick start or you can add compost activators in at different times of the year as you see that they are needed. Generally, compost piles will take some time to decompose naturally on their own.

This is something that you naturally want to avoid, thus the need for the compost activator. When using these types of compost activators, they are usually just added to directly on top of the other compost scraps. One element that you will run across and need to understand is the compost activator. A compost activator can also be used to provide the heat activation that the compost pile needs when the weather is below 50 F. Herbal compost activators are completely natural and work efficiently and quickly.

The ingredient combination in herbal compost activators creates a compost pile that has a sweet scent to it. While you could certainly allow your compost pile to decompose on its own without adding in a compost activator, you run the risk of attracting odors and flies as well as other pests to your compost pile. A compost activator works by providing the nitrogen that a compost pile typically lacks naturally on its own. Nutrients, including potassium, may also be added to these compost activators. The holes are then filled back in.

It is added to the compost pile for the express purpose of speeding up the breakdown of the scraps in the pile. Other options for compost activators include fish, cottonseed, alfalfa meals and bone meal.
