Advantages And Disadvantages Of Getting A Lawn Tractor

By Andre Hansen

Lawn tractors are way dearer than standard lawn mowers. These machines, which Sears sells for approximately $2200, have 4 wheels and a seat; the user drives the tractor around the lawn in order to mow it.

Lawn tractors might be worth the price if you've got a giant lawn to mow. These mowers are more convenient to operate than standard lawn mowers, as you can drive them rather than pushing them round the lawn. Most gardeners working at commercial corporations use lawn tractors; if you want to open a gardening business it is advantageous to take a position in one.

Customer complaint sites could be biased against a selected machine, while sales sites are probably going to pump up the machine's advantages. So talking to folks who have essentially used lawn tractors is the easiest way to get an idea of what a particular lawn tractor is really like.

If you purchase a lawn tractor, make sure to take advantage of extended guaranties and maintenance agreements. Lawn tractors use massive blades to cut the grass, and these blades frequently wear out or get dull. Other lawn tractor parts that frequently wear out are wheels, tires, belts and brakes. Sears offers an upkeep agreement, in which you pay an extra fee to have a seals service person come to your home and repair your lawn tractor if it should fail to work in the right way.

Even mulching blades, which are the biggest machine part, can be purchased for about $60 for a set of 3. Most parts are not tough to install or replace, but again, if you do not feel comfortable, you can request a Sears's technician install a part for you.

Because of the expense, getting a lawn tractor is not a decision that should be regarded lightly. Parts can frequently total up to be as pricey as the machine itself, so make sure to buy service and maintenance agreements with your lawn tractor in case it breaks down! Above all, research and think things over before deciding if a lawn tractor is right for your needs.

Why You Need To Look Into Sticky Door Mats

By Jack Delrento

Most houses use door mats, but many are not sticky door mats. A sticky door mat is similar to a standard door mat, with the exception that are sticky on the top. This means that when you use a sticky door mat, you will not have to remind people to wipe their feet before entering your home.

There are many varieties in these sticky door mats coming in a great many different shapes and sizes. These handy front door decors actually have quite a few uses such as the following:

Kids

No argument here: kids will be kids. That means they will come into the house after playing outside, covered head to toe with grime, and with dirt on the bottoms of their shoes. The majority of kids don't remember to wipe their feet on the doormat, and in no time that messy grime spreads to your tile or the carpet. Then the kids yank off their shoes and toss them to the floor, which soon absorbs the rest of the stray dirt.

This does not have to be the case! Using the sticky door mat, it will grab all the dirt, leaves, and other messes on the bottom of your kids feet as they come in. You will have nothing to worry about as long as he doesn't lunge over the mat.

You Will Have Less Cleaning

Many modern homes are designed with all-tile flooring. And if you have kids and pets, you're constantly sweeping and away dirt and mopping up mud. Yikes. Since sticky mats are made to trap so much of the dirt that normally gets left on your floor, you will soon discover that you aren't cleaning as often as before (at least not the floors).

Carpets Remain Cleaner

In only a few months, homes that have wall-to-wall carpeting can get that drab look, due to all the dirty shoes and feet tracking inside. This is especially true if you have kids and pets.

However, similar to the benefit to homeowners with tile floors, if you use a sticky door mat, much of that dirt and grime can be stuck to the mat and not drug into your home. This will allow you to enjoy carpets that look fresher and new for longer than if you used a standard door mat.

Small Modifications by Using Custom Automotive Bulbs

By David Ostiguy

Just the simplest modifications to your vehicle will make your ride stand out above the rest. For example, just adding Custom Automobile Bulbs to your ride will make it look like your car is from the future. What sort of Auto Bulbs are we talking about? There are tons of lights to choose from, such as HID Conversion Kits, Clear Corner Lenses, Chrome Bulbs and LED Tail lights are just a couple examples.

The HID Conversion Kits are adding head lights to your vehicle that make the car look like much more modern that the manufacturer lights. Things such as Halo Bulbs, Diamond Bulbs are some of the common conversion kits out there. These bulbs make your headlights brighter than the manufacturers and will also give your ride a more futuristic look.

The LED Taillights are similar to the HID Conversion Kits, but are brighter than the standard taillights. This will give your car a look like your car is from outer space.

Adding Clear Corner Lenses into the mix will now give you an extremely cool looking ride. What exactly are Clear Corner Lenses? These are clear lenses that are installed to the blinkers of the vehicle. Recently, car manufactures have been taking notice of these aftermarket products and have been creating vehicles that have this similar look and feel.

After installing Clear Corners to your car, it would be ridiculous to add those silly looking yellow bulbs to your car. There's no need to do this. Thanks to Chrome Bulbs, you will have bulbs that blend in with the rest of the area. Some people call these Mirror Bulbs, simply because you can see your own reflection in the bulbs.

Are Chrome Bulbs legal? Yes they are! Stealth Auto Chrome Bulbs have no hint of yellow in them, but once the blinker is turned on, it lights up in a yellowish/amber look.

Stealth Auto makes their bulbs in the United States and offers excellent customer service.

There is a huge difference between modifying your vehicle and going crazy with your modifications. With so many options to choose from nowadays, it's pretty easy to add too many things to your vehicle. Remember that the simpler the modifications, the better. Also before you install any lights to your vehicles, always be sure that what you're adding is street legal. The traffic tickets can be quite expensive when a police officer pulls you over for having illegal lights on your car.

We're hoping that this article will help you find answers to modifying your vehicle with custom auto lights.

How to benefit from professional carpet cleaning

By Linda Marshall

Installing new carpets in the house is probably one of the biggest investments one can make to improve the attractiveness and comfort of their surroundings. However, despite how expensive and good quality the carpeting is, all carpets and rugs become dingy, stained and dirty with time. That is the reason why most people have their carpets vacuumed regularly. Unfortunately, most people fail to actually clean the carpet. To deeply clean the carpet where more than the surface dirt is removed; the owner can either do it themselves or hire professional cleaners to do it for them. When it comes to carpet cleaning it is more advantageous to hire professional carpet cleaners. Apart from the back-saving advantage, it is always better to have a professional cleaner do the cleaning

Professional carpet cleaners have a lot of experience in carpet treatment such as how to precondition carpets properly and most appropriate methods of cleaning out different stains from different types of carpets. Professional carpet cleaning can make a great difference in cleaning the carpet and reviving its look. Even though it possible to clean the carpet personally, it is easier when professionals are hired to do it regularly. Besides most of the equipment, supplies and process used to clean carpets by professional cleaners cannot be accessed by do-it-yourself (DIY) cleaners. Furthermore, most of the normal cleaning detergents can negatively affect the carpet.

Professional carpet cleaners often remove all the embedded dirt and stains, which soil the carpet. In addition, they also perfume the carpet and help to restore its quality and color as well. Therefore, before professional carpet cleaners are hired it is important for the homeowner to understand several factors such as type of services offered, type of chemicals and solutions to be used, if the carpet has some extra stains or spots that require extra treatment, the type of carpet fabric, whether it is necessary to move furniture before the cleaners arrival and if their services are guaranteed.

The major concern with do-it-yourself cleaning is how clean the carpet will get after the cleaning process. Without specialized cleaning products and equipment, DIY cleaning will not be able to remove the trapped dirt within the carpet. So if all the dirt cannot be removed, then what is the point of cleaning the carpet? On the other hand professional carpet cleaners use truck-mounted hot extraction water to clean the carpet thoroughly. With the combination of cleaning products that are eco-friendly, pressurized water (hot) and rapid dirt removal, these cleaners can practically remove all the dirt that is embedded on the carpet. These professional cleaners can apply a stain protection type of treatment to maintain the carpet's spotlessness for long.

Finally, these carpet cleaning pros have techniques and knowledge of removing tough stains on the carpet. Such stubborn stains include wine, pet stains and cola juice and can be removed by cleaning using professional carpet cleaners. Moreover, these professional cleaners may remove repulsive odors from pet satins from the carpet. So never assume that some stains and spots on the carpet are permanent before trying to use these professional carpet cleaners who will certainly remove them.

Massage Chair Review: Panasonic EP-30003 KU Massage Recliner

By Rebecca Wisniewski

The focus of this review is the Panasonic EP 30003 which is part of the Real Pro Ultra series of massage chairs. We will review some of the more relevant areas of the purchase of this product. The Real Pro Ultra series is replacing the Real Pro Elite which was the prior series of model from Panasonic. The Panasonic Real Pro Ultra EP 30003 is a mid range model in the $2,000 to $3,000 range.

First, we take a look at the post-sale protection for the consumer. This includes both the warranty and customer service in the event that you require service on the chair. The warranty covers certain aspects such as labor and parts covered by the manufacturer. The warranty coverage protects the consumer and takes some risk out of the purchase. Not all warranties are the same. Panasonic provides you with 3 years on the parts on the major components. Items like upholstery are excluded from the warranty. You also get 1 year labor and 1 year shipping of parts covered by the factory. This coverage is good on the parts, but is rather short on the labor. Panasonic is now offering in-home technician service to bring it up to the level of the best chair manufacturers. Most retailers will offer extended warranty coverage to match the better companies, but at additional cost. Customer service is provided by the retail establishment where the chair is purchased, so service levels are highly variable.

We are currently seeing an explosion of new technologies and features being poured into massage chairs by their manufacturers. The price of the features is dropping to integrate, so features are being added without significant price increases. The next challenge for manufacturers is to keep the controls simple enough to use without having a PHD. Panasonic has tremendous experience with electronics, so we expect their controllers to reflect that knowledge. We are not disappointed. The remote control is simple and easy to use. Panasonic has one touch automatic programs which operate massages based on themes. Also, they have included a voice guidance system to help walk users through using the controls.

There are two important features of the EP30003 that we would like to point out. Of course, there are many more, but we won't cover everything in this review. One of the more relavant features for Americans is the leg rest extension. The leg rest can be adjusted out to better position the areas on the legs. Also, this helps individuals that are taller to better fit in the massage recliner. The other innovative feature is a new massage technique. Panasonic has developed the Junetsu massage. Junetsu means ultra fine kneading in Japanese. This Junetsu technique uses small circular motions. These small circular motions are used in conjunction with firm pressure to penetrate through the muscles and to the surface of the bone. This is a great addition to the shiatsu and Swedish massages already offered in this chair.

You will want to make sure that your massage recliner is comfortable to sit in, since it can also be used as a recliner as well. Some are quite frankly, not very comfortable when not being used for massage. The Panasonic Real Pro Ultra comes with nice padded armrest covers. The upholstered chair back is plush and the synthetic leather is very soft to the touch. The chair comes with a detachable, contoured head support pillow. Panasonic has added an extendable leg rest which can be extended an additional 5 inches. This is a big improvement over their prior series without this feature. The chair is well designed and ergonomic.

This is perhaps the most important category, since the massage makes or breaks the chair. The Panasonic EP-30003 comes with automatic and manual programs. For one touch convenience, select from four 15-minute Pre-Programs, One 5-minute Quick Program. The Pre-programs or automatic programs include Shiatsu, Swedish, Deep, Stretch and Quick. Shiatsu is for severe tightness and tension; Swedish is for gentle invigoration and enhanced blood flow: Deep is for mild tightness and tension; Stretch is for a refreshing stretch of the lower body; Quick is for a variety of techniques in 5 minutes. Manual massage techniques include: Junetsu, Shiatsu, Swedish, Knead, Stretch, Tap and Full Roll. The lower body air system covers the calves and feet only.

We like the new innovative massage technique, the Junetsu introduced by Panasonic. We also like the extendable leg rest to better accommodate the American market. The chair is well designed and ergonomic. We are not impressed with the overall look and style of the chair. Panasonic should be able to produce chairs that are impressively designed on the outside, not just the inside. The massage therapies are fairly comprehensive and effective. This is certainly a contender for your attention if you are looking for a good quality and solidly built massage chair in this price range.

Blueair Offers Long Warranty on Air Purifiers

By Ben Burr

You should always be sure to consider a few specific issues when buying an air purifier. As with everything else in life, you want the best but at a price you can afford as well. However, with air purifiers, price may not be the most important issue. When the health of your family is on the line, we'll often spare no expense.

So why do you need an air purifier in the first place? As you may have heard, the air inside your home can be even more polluted than outside! 10 years ago the big concern was smog, CO2, and smoke from factories. We now know that there can be silent enemies threatening your health even inside your home. Micro-organisms, most too small to see, can cause allergies, irritate asthma, give you headaches or in extreme cases even cause permanent health problems!

You'll obviously want to eliminate any and all pollutants in the air that could make you or your family sick. Purchasing an air purifier can go a LONG way to preserving your families health. Unfortunately, there are so many models and features that deciding amongst them can be a daunting task. The first decision you'll need to make is which kind of unit you'll need: a portable but mobile one for use in a single room or a larger unit that can service your entire home. If you can eliminate one type of purifier right off the bat it can make your decision process go that much quicker. If you don't know what you need, you might consider visiting an informational site or review site to help identify which version is right for you.

After you've decided what type of purifier you need, you'll have plenty of makes and models to choose from. The most important aspect to consider is the filtering system. A HEPA filter is used in most models and is also used in many hospitals and clean rooms. These filters claim to pull over 99% of the impurities out of the air. You may also want to find out how easy it is to replace the filters. While you won't have to do it all that often, you want changing the filter to be as easy as possible. If you're going to really be working the unit (with pet hair etc) you may also want a unit with a pre-filter of sorts.

The best air purifiers are a bit more expensive than the others. The Blueair air purifier is one of the best, and has a long warranty. That is very important since this will be an appliance you will use very often if not 24/7.

While you may be able to find a bargain, if you just have to replace it a year or two down the road you won't actually be saving money. With a lengthy warranty like the Blueair air purifiers offer, a unit that's a bit more expensive up front may well be the best value in the long run. The last thing you want to worry about is whether or not your purifier is working properly. You just want clean air! The Blueair unit will allow you to both rest and breath easy on that front.

Levels Of Commercial Window Cleaning

By Sean Sheen

There are many services offered by commercial window cleaning companies. These services are generally divided into various levels. These levels can include; a basic window washing, an actual cleaning of debris from windows, or even an ultra-clean method. Some companies have staff perform the cleaning by hand, while others use power washers. Either way, commercial window cleaners provide all their own equipment.

The staff provided by window cleaning companies are usually insured, bonded, and licensed, They will wash windows at a residence or a business, depending on what they are equipped for. While many companies are able to handle skyscrapers, others may prefer to wash windows at ground level only. These services are offered year around, since a dirty window isn't just a seasonal issue. Below are descriptions of the various levels of window washing services offered by most commercial companies.

Window Washing- This process involves the use of soap and water, it will include either inside and outside or just the outside portion. A simple wash is the cheapest form of window cleaning commercially offered. Some companies prefer to use a foam method of washing instead of water, to avoid dripping associated with watery solutions. Many companies use rubber squeegees for removal of excess water, to avoid streaking, before towel-drying.

Window Cleaning- The cleaning of debris off of windows is usually needed after construction work has been performed. There is often plaster or paint splatters on windows, which will need to be removed with a razor blade and some abrasive pads. Layers of dust tend to cover the entire window surface; panes, frame, and sill. This method pertains to the cleaning of windows, window sill, and sometimes the frames themselves.

After all debris has been removed, the window is washed and dried. Many companies will also include the washing of frames and sills at this cleaning level.

The frame on the inside is usually cleaned as well and sometimes even dried with chamois, depending on the company offering the service.

Commercial window cleaning comes on a variety of levels, each one made to suit the business or home owner. These services can also be schedule on a weekly, monthly, yearly, or made to fit any personal agenda.

Outdoor Pond - Tips For Successful Backyard Ponds

By Michael Wezsky

If you are thinking of improving your backyard then an outdoor pond is a great addition, it's a place to be close to nature and relax, a place where you can rest and recharge your batteries. No wonder more and more gardeners are adding nice backyard ponds to their properties. The 7 tips below will help you build and maintain a great outdoor pond.

1. Inspiration from books, magazines and the Internet. You can find inspiring pond photo books in your local library or bookstore; also websites like flickr.com and youtube.com can be researched for images, tutorials and tips.

2. Inspiration is all over the place. Once you start looking you will find ponds and water features everywhere; parks and public buildings just to name a few. Take pictures of things you like and dislike, so later on, when designing, you can easily refer to.

3. Location, location, Location. Keep in mind that once built, it's going to be very hard to move a pond. Think of questions like: Do you want your pond close to your house or at an edge of your backyard? Will most of that tree leaves fall into your pond? Do you want the pond to be seen from a specific window or you prefer it as a surprise corner of your garden?

4. Choose your outdoor pond style. If you would like to match the architecture of your house then a formal pond is probably your choice. Formal pond examples can be found in palaces and monuments both old and new. If you are looking for something more natural that will blend with the environment and your garden, then informal ponds are your choice. Informal ponds will imitate nature's rivers and lakes with sand shores and lots of vegetation. The most important issue here is to keep your pond in harmony with your backyard design.

5. Additional design tips. Waterfalls and other features can be added to your pond but take its style into consideration. What kind of fish will you introduce and what are their needs? Does your ground allow easy digging for a below the ground pond or maybe you need to build it above the ground with a nice brick or stone wall?

6. Don't let you budget out of control. An unfinished pond project is not the best view in our backyard. When making your plans to build a pond account all materials to complete it as well as payment for professional help if needed. One option to cut building costs and efforts is the use of pre-made pond kits that can be found on the web or in local stores.

7. Safety first. Keep your pond safe for children, pets and animals you host in it. Your safety checklist should include stable surfaces and waterproof electric installations. To avoid water leakage keep your pond level and use a good liner to avoid holes in your pond. Don't forget constant maintenance and cleaning to keep you pond clean and enjoyable.

Pond building is a complex hobby that can become very enjoyable if you take your time to plan and maintain it. Get your family involved in it from the very beginning making it a project enjoyed by everyone in your household.

Choosing External Doors - What To Look For?

By Hazel Wig

External doors exist to protect us and to make a clear demarcation between our homes and the outside world. The home may have more than one external door, but it's likely that the front door is the main entrance. It's rare today to have a "tradesman's entrance" at the side or back. For security reasons, side and back doors are often fenced off from the house front and are very different in style and use from the front door.

The important concept of transferring between our private life and our social or work life can be represented by our external doors.

The first aspect to consider is the one that's been vital wherever and whenever people are creating external doors. Weather can be a very uncomfortable aspect of life in your home if the doors aren't adequate. Dust, wind, cold, water, heat and many other weather considerations have always been vital when choosing the type of door to install. Even if you don't live in a dramatic climate, you still need to look at the physical situation of your home. Open aspects, and the lack of any protection may make your situation very different from your neighbour's.

Sun coming in through a glazed front door creates pleasant patterns on the walls and floor of the entrance to a home. This makes for a very welcoming entrance. However, do be aware that you may be showing more of the inside of your home than you wish. Patterned and/or obscure glass can solve this problem.

It's essential to select a door which is built to withstand attempts to force an entry. Doors intended for use inside the home should not be installed as front doors and you should remember to keep this door locked.

Please check your home insurance to see what sort of requirements your insurer demands. Such advice is very helpful as it clearly lays out what is necessary and how the items should be installed. You'll find your door manufacturer will be familiar with these types of requirements. It's not only the handles and locks that you need to consider, but also the door frame and the method used to secure it to the walls.

As well as deterring unwanted intruders, the main entrance door can also make your friends feel welcome and appeal to new visitors. Natural wood doors can be beautiful, secure and welcoming.

When choosing your external doors, you may want to look at samples that reflect the tradition and age of your home's external appearance. Look at other homes in the street and you'll get a good idea of possibilities - even if there are some things you decide you must avoid!

Having considered all your requirements, visit a door manufacturer's showroom or look at their website (often easier). You'll be able to see what there is available to suit your needs in a variety of styles and materials. Oak and hardwood doors make very attractive home entrances, but you might also want to consider uPVC which requires little maintenance. Other woods, such as pine can also be bought as cheaper alternatives to traditional oak and hardwood external doors.

uPVC doors come in standard styles and there's little that can be done to personalise them. It's easier to create a more individual style by painting or staining and varnishing a wooden front door. You also have a wide selection of door furniture available for wooden doors. At this point you can also consider extra items such as weather bars and security items.

After carefully considering all the aspects of security and welcome in your particular home, it should be easy to find external doors which fit your needs, style and budget perfectly.

Indoor Solar Lights

By Steve Schafer

Have you ever heard of indoor solar lighting? Most people don't know that solar lights can actually be used indoors. Indoor solar lights are becoming more and more popular world wide despite the fact that many of us have never considered using them. If you're looking for an outstanding way to save energy and money, it is a great way to get started.

Solar power has been being used, in one way or another since the 7th century BC, but the technology behind indoor solar lighting is still very young. Still, it is being used more and more often, especially in the United States to light small, remote structures such as in parks and natural reserve areas. Since these types of locations are very difficult and expensive to supply with conventional forms of lighting, they are perfect for this application. Indoor solar lighting is becoming more popular as more and more businesses in America are utilizing the technology as well.

Today most industrial indoor solar lights are a combination of light tube technology and solar powered lights. In some applications light tube and solar powered lighting is used in security sensitive areas such as prisons. The fact that light tubes can transfer a lot of light into an interior room through a very small opening makes them perfect for this application. Combining these light tubes with solar powered lighting creates a hybrid lighting system that is unmatched in effectiveness and efficiency.

There are actually many uses for indoor solar lights; like lighting up your garage, shed or gazebo - not to mention the inside of your home. The fact that you don't need an electrical source is a big advantage. All you need is a direct source of sunlight. No worrying about light bulbs or power outages. Indoor solar light installation is usually fairly easy and requires little if any maintenance and upkeep.

Getting power to a remote structure like a shed or detached garage to run even a single light bulb can be more trouble (and expensive) than it is worth. No problem - just install some indoor solar lights for a cheap and easy solution. For the inside of your home, you can try solar track lights and solar skylights as well.

With all the options becoming available, it's no wonder that indoor solar lighting is becoming more and more popular. A quick search on the internet and you will undoubtedly discover loads of these environmentally friendly lighting solutions. As research continues into areas like solar inks and nanoparticle integration, we will definitely see more and more uses for solar power in the near future. This will open up all kinds of new ways to use solar lighting to not only help save the planet's resources, but save money as well!

Cubicle Furniture - Flexibility for Businesses

By Roger Powell

In business, today's buzzword is flexibility. A company needs to be able to meet the needs of its employees to be comfortable and work in an inviting environment. However, the employer wants to keep costs down and not be locked into a specific plan. Cubicles and cubicle furniture have gained popularity as a way to meet these needs for both the business owner and its employees.

The reason you should be concerned with your employees comfort level is that this will increase their productivity. Typically, an employee will have to deal with whatever the original installation was in any given office. If your company takes over a building that was originally used for a different industry, then adaptation is hard. Cubicle furniture makes adaptation easy, because cubicle furniture is adjustable, so you can change things depending on each individual and each working environment.

Another way that cubicle furniture can help you is that it is adaptable and accessible for employees who have disabilities. A standard desk does not easily accommodate a wheelchair, but with a cubicle office, you do not have the added expense of customizing things for one individual.

Each piece of cubicle furniture is independently placed according to the worker's needs. Desks, shelving and filing can be attached to the cubicle wall via brackets, so no particular setup is permanent. Cubicles can be adjusted to accommodate just about any work environment. Making the change takes your maintenance department a matter of minutes.

Cubicles not only provide ease, using them is also more cost effective that using a typical office setup. With cubicle furniture, there is no need to completely remodel whenever you want a new office design. It will also allow for the complete eliminate used and old cabinets and furniture, which often cause disruption or complete shutting down of work. Walls are also usually torn out whenever there is a need to accommodate a new office requirement. This type of large expense and disruption is also eliminated by cubicles.

You can quickly disassemble and reassemble your cubicle furniture if you have any changes. If you typically take on more people during the holiday period or during summers, you can easily manage this, and then take down the extra spaces after the fully staffed period.

In addition, because of the simplicity of the system, every imaginable set up is possible. If your employee only needs a small desk with a computer and a few shelves and filing trays, this is easily done. Furthermore, larger office spaces are easily accommodated as well with the possibility of wrap around cubicle furniture, creating a larger and more versatile space for managers or conference areas. The cubicle walls themselves are made in different heights, depending on the privacy needs of each space.

It is important to keep an eye on the overhead running of your office, as well as its expenses, and every business owner knows about this. However, cutting corners often ends up in less productivity and unpleasant work environment. Using cubicle furniture for having a flexible workspace will not only help you save money, it will also allow your employees to arrange or rearrange their work area according to their specific taste and needs.

Home Buying - Garden Foresight

By Keith Markensen

Special consideration should be given to the garden potential by anyone buying a new home. This is a factor all too often ignored by purchasers who later regret their lack of foresight. You should, at the very least, be aware of the garden problems your new home will present.

Desirable Features

Whether you intend to move to a rural or to an urban area, there are certain qualities you will want your property to have. You want soil with good drainage, and land contour that can be graded without too great expense. The best type of property in these respects would be one that is gently rolling; it offers little likelihood of poor drainage, yet is not sloped enough to cause erosion. A perfectly flat piece of land can appear to be ideal for a garden, but you should first check the subsoil condition to make sure there is no "hard pan" (that is, a layer of hard-packed soil impervious to the passage of water), or even solid rock, just a few inches below the surface.

If you are considering buying an older home with an established planting, do not fail to consider the cost of replacing overgrown or unattractive shrubbery when figuring estimates of any contemplated remodeling. Correcting the landscaping mistakes of previous owners can be a costly and strenuous job.

Custom Building

The person who owns his piece of land but has not yet started to build his home is, of course, in the best position of all to plan his landscape. In that case, one of the most important decisions that can be made concerns the location of the house on the lot. It is never wise to place it in the exact center of the land area. Not only does this make the land look smaller, it also cuts the efficient use of the remainder of the property.

Where a property is less than 150 feet deep, it is wise to squeeze the home as close to the street line as possible. This allows more room in the rear of the house for development of the private and service areas of the garden, as will be explained in detail later on. One piece of good fortune enjoyed by the custom builder is that he can conserve both money and soil by judicious location of the driveway and walk. He has the added opportunity to locate his house in relation to valuable existing trees on the site.

The Pre-Built Home

It is not, however, impossible to find many or most of the desirable features of garden design in an older home, or one already put up by a builder. Besides the advantage of lower initial cost, you may also find a home where terracing, old trees, mature bushes for privacy and you can put hearty house plants, have all been incorporated. Although you are then deprived of the pleasure of making your own individual basic design, you will perhaps find equal enjoyment and certainly much less work in devising modifications of what is already there.

As a gardener, therefore, you will look for a pre-built house that is already well landscaped. Or, failing that, you will look for one whose garden you can transform without the arduous task of uprooting most of the existing vegetation.

Home Buyers Guide: Building Inspection Reports

By Bernjamin M Monopser

Are you worried about whether the home you want to buy is really as sound as advertised? A pre-purchase report might be the answer to all your problems. This building inspection report will tell you if there are any problems, identify what it will take to fix them, and help you ensure that you're buying a home that's up to your standards.

There are two basic kinds of report for a home you're considering. The first one just covers the structure of the home, from the footings and floors to the walls and roof structure, as well as the soundness of ceilings and of outside structures. It'll help you make sure that the home is safe and put together well, not something with hidden problems that's going to fall apart soon.

Why pick this report instead of one that'll tell you more? If you're in a situation where you'll be doing a full renovation of the home anyway, where you think you're going to be able to deal with doing the inspection of those elements, or if you're in another situation where they just don't matter, this is the right option. A structural report gives you information about the frame of the home and doesn't require you to pay for information about parts you won't be keeping.

Want something a little more detailed to tell you everything you need to know about the house? Perhaps you need to choose a pre-purchase building report instead. It covers all the structural elements, but also adds on inspection of the plumbing and electrical wiring, checks for termite/white ant damage, and makes sure that doors, windows, roofing, guttering and other important maintenance areas have been taken care of correctly.

It doesn't matter which one you decide to choose, of course - a pre-purchase building report is the right choice to help you ensure that the property you buy doesn't come with any hidden problems you don't already know about. This can save you a lot of money in the long term, since you'll know that your home doesn't have foundation damage, serious plumbing problems, or other expensive issues.

Be sure that the report you commission is one done in accordance with the current standards and codes, and that you have it done by someone who has all the current certifications for the job. Good inspection companies do a lot of reports yearly, and have experience in the residential sector, not just the commercial one.

There are lots of houses on the market that have problems, from sagging in the ceilings and rooves to cracks in walls and floors, wiring and plumbing issues and many other problems. No one wants to walk into one of these situations without knowing about it. It could end up being extremely costly, after all!

A new home is one of the most important investments you'll make in your life, and it's not one you ought to rush into. Get the right information and prevent problems from getting bigger. Get an experienced inspector to do a pre-purchase report for any property you're thinking about buying - it's worth it.

Above Ground Pools or Above Ground Swimming Pools For Summer Fun

By Moe Kittaneh

When summer arrives and the heat is on, a great way to relax and stay cool is with above ground pools.

Above ground pools are a much less expensive option than are in ground pools. There is no hole to dig and the materials that are used to make the pool are much less expensive. There are many types of above ground pools available today.

No matter which type of above ground pool you choose, you will need a level spot for installation. Any stones or debris should be removed from the spot before installation. A layer of sand will help to keep the pool level and flat on the bottom. If you are installing a metal wall above ground pool, you will need extra sand to build a cove around the inside of the lower pool wall. This keeps the liner from sliding under the metal wall and becoming damaged.

The easiest pool to setup has an inflatable ring around the top of the pool. Once it is inflated, water is added into the pool until it is filled. The ring keeps the pool standing up. These pools are only available in limited sizes.

The metal sided above ground pool is the oldest of above ground pools. These pools can last for many seasons if treated properly. A plastic liner inside the metal walls keeps the water inside the pool. These pools are available in either round or oval shapes and can be very large.

In recent years a pool has been developed that uses the heavier liner of the inflatable ring pool with PVC pipe for a support. This pool does away with the time of installation of a metal pool but has a much stronger wall support than the inflatable ring pool. These pools are also available in very large sizes.

Above ground pools need a filtering system to keep the water clear. Many pool owners find that a sand filter system is much more effective and economical than the paper filter systems that come with many less expensive pools.

For many years, chlorine was the chemical associated with swimming pools. Chlorine is a very volatile chemical and required constant replacement. Newer systems use table salt to keep the pool free of algae and germs. Table salt, sodium chloride, is a very stable chemical and pools require much less than they did with chlorine. Salt filters are an inexpensive addition to help you enjoy your above ground pool even more.

Use Interior Design To Revitalize Your House

By Nelly Shea

A house becomes your home only after it is decorated as per your preferences and reflects your individuality. Many people who are creative try their hand at interior design but often fail because they keep on worrying about making a mistake.

Even those who think about hiring a professional interior designer for renovation or a new house are not very comfortable with the idea of leaving it all in someone's hand. Therefore, it is important to strike a balance - first carefully think about your preferences and then consider hiring someone for the task.

Finding the right interior designer can be confusing but you will do fine as long as you stick to some basic rules. Employ a person who is a reputed interior designer and has experience and reliability.

Express your preferences to the designer when you speak to him for the first time. He would most likely offer some thoughts to suit your needs and that will help you judge if his thinking fits your requirements. You can also look at examples of the work undertaken by the designer in the past, seek references from other customers, and try to find out if he is well informed before hiring him.

If during the renovation of the house, you choose to handle interior design on your own, then here is how you should go about it. In the beginning itself, you must know very well how you want your home to look. After the fundamental idea has taken shape, you can search trade magazines, the world wide web etc. to choose the kind of furniture and other stuff which are required for your house. Needless to say, you will have to take care of the budget while doing this. Once you finish buying all the articles, all that is needed is to arrange them according to your thought out layout.

Things to Seek Out in Bathroom Ceiling Lights

By Philip Baker

If you're in the midst of designing a bathroom, you've probably looked into some of the many different bathroom ceiling lights available. What you choose will have a big impact on the way your bathroom comes out so you'd be wise to put the right amount of time into figuring out what to get.

The choice of bathroom ceiling lights will depend on a few different things, like the size of the bathroom and how much light much be emitted, the colors of the walls and floors, and more. There's one more question that must be addressed too, and this comes down to the choice of light bulb.

There are ambient light bulbs and there are task lights. Task lights are oriented toward things like vanity mirrors and other things that involve some closer inspection of your body or face. The ambient ones are for a more subdued overall look to the bathroom, as these lights can dim.

The bulb is an equally important factor. Not only will this have an impact on look and cost, but this will also have an impact on the kind of light emitted in the room. The two more popular kinds are halogen bathroom ceiling lights and fluorescent ones.

The benefits of using halogen bathroom ceiling lights are their accuracy and the life they can add to a room. These are powerful bulbs for sure, and they'll definitely light up a room. On the flip side, they get really, really hot and they're difficult to change. They're also said to burn out pretty quickly, and this can be expensive.

Fluorescent ones are bright, but the color is inaccurate. People say it changes the color of their skin tones.

Anyone stuck in the middle might opt for a GU10 bathroom ceiling light bulb. These are cheap and their color is more similar to halogen. However, the physical appearance of the bulb is a little unconventional.

Modular Sofas - Things You Need To Know Before Buying

By Jamie White

Are modular sofas for you? Should you consider one even if you are able to fit a normal contemporary or a traditional sofa in your home?

Modular sofas are extremely versatile and a great way to make use of awkward spaces. They come in different numbers of modules for smaller or larger rooms, and in different configurations to fit different shaped rooms.

Modular sofas can take up a fair bit of space as they may be wider than a traditional one but that means they can look very impressive in a large room. If you have a large open plan space such as a warehouse or loft conversion apartment they will look good and can be used to define spaces within the larger area.

Large modular sofas may not be so suitable as such for smaller Victorian London apartments or small homes with restricted room. It is possible, though even here to use modular types of sofa units with smaller numbers of units and in fact, their versatility in configuration means they can sometimes be placed where a traditional sofa simply would not fit.

Also, modular sofas tend to be able to seat more people than traditional ones, so if you need the maximum amount of seating space they are worth considering.

Modular sofas come in a range of sizes from small to large, and in differing numbers of units that make up them. This makes it easier to choose the right type for your needs. Small sofas are interesting as they can be a comfy chair for one person or ideal for a couple to cuddle in. Bear in mind the arms of a sofa can make a good deal of difference in respect of how many people can comfortably sit on it.

The modern units with low backs are often very attractive with their contemporary styling but you should be aware that they are not always the most practical to own as they may not give adequate back support. You should certainly try before buying as a low-backed style can be uncomfortable after a while if your back is not supported.

The appearance of a modular sofa can depend a good deal on the type of the arms, whether they are thin or thick for instance. Narrow arms can make the whole sofa appear smaller, whilst large, bulky arms will have the opposite effect. To get a large sofa to look smaller and more elegant in a room of limited size you would look for more narrow arms. In a large room this sofa might look rather insignificant whereas a sofa with much larger arms would make more impact.

When it is not possible to find sufficient space for an adequate sized standard sofa consider a modular corner type. This type of seating unit runs along two walls with a shaped section fitting into the corner connecting the two. It is thus one extensive seating unit rather than two unconnected ones. This arrangement gives a lot of seating space and really can look quite grand in a large room. Even in a room not so large such an arrangement can look most attractive even though it may need to be scaled down somewhat.

An alternative option to consider if you are short of space or need an extra bed is a sofa bed. These pieces of furniture are remarkably versatile, looking as they do like a sofa for most of the time, but easily converting to a bed when required You get a dual purpose by this means.

It is worth thinking about how you use your room when thinking about seating. If you wish to change the arrangement around sometimes, or be more flexible, then you may wish to have a sofa and chairs rather than a fixed unit.. It is sometimes possible, depending on your modules and the shape of your room, to reconfigure a modular sofa to give a different appearance.

A little careful thought and planning with these considerations in mind will ensure you get the perfect modular sofa for your home.

The Origin Of Roses

By Thomas Fryd

Squatting in admiration before a particularly beautiful and promising rose seedling, I was startled by a friend walking up behind me. Naturally he was curious as to "what" I was so intently studying but his first question really jarred me.

Actually this man - who had almost no knowledge of roses, voiced the very question that had been running around and around in my mind. He said, "I see it is rose," but what is it?

He expected me to say, a cutting started from Radiance, Crimson Glory, Supreme or etc., but I really confused him by stating it came from seed. After several minutes of explanation he finally said, "I didnt know roses came from seed."

This led into a discussion of hybrid tea, grandiflora, hybrid perpetual and floribunda which completely mystified my visitor. Not being able to explain these terms to myself I could not clearly explain them to him.

The seedling in question is a good one to use for the purpose of a problem that eventually we are going to have to face and solve. For example, when Pernet-Ducher produced Soleil dOr some 100 years ago, the cross of tea roses with hybrid perpetuals was a fairly new thing.

To separate the "old" from the "new" the designation hybrid tea did very well. But what of today? Some recent introductions have hybrid perpetual ancestors in the immediate background.

It is generally realized that any change, no matter how good - is opposed because all people enjoy status quo to some extent. As an extreme example the Bible states (Ecclesiastes 7:1) "The day of death than the day of ones birth." But how we resent that day, we want no change.

Here is this seedling, typical of thousands now flowering daily in seed flats all over the world and being introduced to our landscape and gardens in very rapidly increasing numbers in the immediate decade. Certainly it is not a floribunda notwithstanding its immediate floribunda ancestor for the plant is going to be large and tall.

The flower is simply tremendous in size with a very tall bud carrying in excess of 75 petals. It could not possibly be accurately called a hybrid tea, for like this plant has a gallica bloom, stem, plant and unlike the old hybrid called Peace, a gallica coloring and fragrance.

It has the complete everblooming of Rosa chinensis. It has no visible tea character at all and could not be accurately called hybrid perpetual for it sets a bloom on every new twig which sprouts as seen in many rose gardens. If you have been tending or planting a rose garden you will notice that its bud is tall and pointed - massive, yes, but tall massive somewhat like Burnaby for size and shape.

Besides just what would hybrid perpetual really mean? Taken literally this would mean "a hybrid of a perpetual" and there is no such thing as a Rosa perpetual. My dictionary defines perpetual as never ceasing" - examples of this would be: life, death, birth, sin and taxes. Thus strictly speaking a "hybrid perpetual" would be a hybrid of death or taxes, which to me is void of meaning.

Building The Ideal Kitchen For Your Home

By Keith Emmentalle

Making sure that you have a decent kitchen is a must for every single person, because kitchens are where many people spend a lot of time. There are a lot of people that just settle for what they have as far as kitchens go, however if you are unhappy with your kitchen you're going to be sorry because of the amount of time you actually spend in the kitchen. Making sure that you please with your kitchen will ensure that you enjoy your time there.

When you are designing your perfect kitchen, there are many things that you will need to take into account before you make any final decisions. The first thing you need to figure out before you start designing your kitchen is what you want in it. Some appliances such as refrigerators and stoves are a given, but if you want a dishwasher, waste disposal unit, or wine cooler in your kitchen you will have to plan for them from the start.

You're going to need to make sure that you plan out any sort of cabinets, or any shelves that are generally out of the ordinary. There are some that will want a wine rack, or even a pull-out system for their cabinets so they can see everything in it. You might want to hire a designer, and through them you can implement specific elements into your kitchen. You'll want to do these things ahead of time, because they're much harder to add later.

After your choice has been rendered, make sure that you speak with your designer. Essentially, you are going to have to show them the amount of space that you have to work with. Then you need to plan around certain things. Things like these include doors, windows, and other parts that you really don't want to block. You never want to end up blocking a window, that's for sure.

Choosing what style and color of cabinets you want is something you will probably want to do early on. If you aren't sure why this is important to do early, it is because not all styles of cabinets come in the same shapes and sizes. They usually do, but there are few things more frustrating than getting your kitchen designed only to discover a key cabinet doesn't come in the size and color that you need. Fixing an issue like this can take a lot of time.

There's a few kitchens that are large enough to accommodate an island. If you can do this in your kitchen, then make sure that you do. It will add more benefits than you could possibly imagine. You will be able to store things on it, and you will also have an extra place to fix meals. On top of that, you can install a rack to store your pots and pans.

You should also consider what type of lighting you want to use. Having the right lighting will have a huge impact on whether or not you actually want to spend time in your kitchen. As far as the lighting goes, there are a lot of different styles available. It really depends on your kitchen however.

By designing the perfect kitchen you are making it more likely that you will love being in your kitchen for years to come. There is no limit to the colors and styles that you can use to make it completely your own, and with the help of a designer you can make it all come.

How to Save Money Cutting Your Home Energy Bill

By Ethan O. Tanner

Heating charges are going up up in all parts of the nation and the tendency will uphold due to World energy requirements. The normal U.S. Family disbursement on energy bills is calculated at 6% to 8% of the income. Homeowners of efficient Modern homes spend substantially less than the people residing in older houses. Fiscal burden due to enlarged energy expenses could be brought down by weatherizing and conserving.

One of the Easiest and Cost Effective Ways to reduce your Home Heating bill is through an Infrared Radiant Heater. This type of heater is economical, energy efficient, and it provides clean air. Infrared heat waves distribute the heat evenly, regardless of the location of the heater. This type of heater will often save up to 50% over other heating sources.

Your house can be energy deficient in plumbing, insulation or heating. In many old houses, the biggest problem is not the cold air coming from windows but the air filtration from the basement due to floor joists and the structures supporting the floor. In an average American home, 50%-70% of the energy used goes to heating and cooling.

If your house is built before 1980, it may no have adequate insulation. While most owners focus on attic insulation, they should not ignore the basement ceiling. Fiber glass is not a good insulation material as air flows right through it. Use spray foam or cellulose as an insulation materials for proper insulation.

Caulk and weather stripping all doorways and windows that escape air. Check out all plumbing, ducting and electrical wiring that permeates through outside walls and seal those to keep hot air pentrating out. Keep the flue pipe damper tightly closed when the fireplace is not in use. If you're projecting to change windowpanes in your household, shop for insulating windows and install them as air-tight proper fitting as conceivable. You can use industrial transparent plastic sheet to the interior of your window and seal them properly to forbid any leakage.

Another area where home owners can focus to reduce their energy bill is conservation. If you have an old thermostat, replace it with a new electronics control thermostat with digital readouts. An electronics control thermostat is more precise than a dial type thermostat. Better, yet, is a programmable thermostat that you can program for the different hours of the day and night.

When you buy new appliances, look for the "Energy Star label. Energy Star labeled appliances are certified to be energy efficient. Most appliances now display a bright yellow and black Energy Guide label. These labels will tell you the average energy consumption cost of the appliance. While shopping for any appliance, do not forget to take into account this cost as another factor to evaluate before you make your final decision. You can find more energy tips at www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/tips.

Vinyl Words on Floor Tiles

By Bart Icles

Vinyl words and lettering are fast becoming one of the most popular ways to decorate the walls of your home or room. There are already several online stores that offer vinyl words as parts of their products and services. Most of these online stores can accept customized projects and there are also some who prefer letting you choose from an archive or catalog of designs and fonts. If you cannot find a vinyl lettering store online or one that is near your area, then you might want to do a little experiment. It is always possible to create vinyl words on floor tiles on your own and you can create them right in your own home.

The first thing you need to do is to purchase floor tiles from any hardware or home improvement store online or near your area. Depending on the look you want to achieve, you can select 3x3 ?inch tiles or you can also go for the larger, classier looking tiles. It is also best to select a marble tile because it is smooth and it has a range of color variations. You will also need to purchase a scraper or a plastic putty knife. Other materials that you need to prepare are die cutting machine, adhesive vinyl, hanger or easel, and clear transfer paper (preferably with grid).

Choose the kind of font cartridge that you would want to use and insert it properly into your die cutting machine. Start entering the words, phrases or sentences you plan to place on your floor tiles then load some adhesive vinyl into the die cutting machine. Allow the machine to cut out the words.

After the words have been cut out, you can now transfer them onto the marble tiles. To help you align the letters and words, you can use a clear transfer paper. The clear transfer paper will serve as a guide so you can better place the letters onto the tiles. Once done, you can smoothen out the vinyl sticker and bubbles with the help of a scraper or a plastic putty knife.

You can now display your vinyl words art. You can use a small easel ? the one used for decorative plates ? and place your art on your shelf, mantel or table. You can also grab a nail hanger and use a super glue to stick it to the back of your tile. You can then hang it on your walls. It really all depends on how you plan to use the floor tile as a home decoration.

Pond Building - The Wildlife Option

By Michael Wezsky

The most popular type of outdoor pond is without a doubt a fish pond, with clean waters and filters. The much less common option, requesting a more adventurous spirit, is to build a wildlife outdoor pond.

First let's define what is a wildlife pond. A wildlife pond is a natural environment hosting a self-sustaining ecosystem. A spot in your property backyard where nature has regained full control and you are merely an observer.

How to create a wildlife outdoor pond?

1. Wildlife need undisturbed access to your pond, select a spot by the edge of your backyard, close to nature.

2. Follow the building tips described below.

3. Place naturally rich water into it.

4. Don't interfere, just make sure the right conditions are there.

5. Eventually the environment will take care of the rest.

What can you expect? Well, if you take care of the details, you will have an autonomous ecosystem filled with a variety of living creatures and with little need for maintenance at all.

Guidelines to build a wildlife pond. You can use informal ponds plans and ideas to build a wildlife pond, but there will be no need for filters and aeration as your ecosystem will naturally take care of this. To attract toads and other types of wildlife your pond needs a healthy population of insects, therefor your pond won't have fish in it, as they will destroy your insect population.

In terms of pond location, place your pond at the border of your property, where your backyard meets nature. But remember this is a wildlife pond, with insects and toads in it, avoid problems by placing it at a safe distance of your house and your neighbor's property.

To create natural hiding places for the wildlife you want to attract, keep the vegetation around your pond as high and untidy as possible, but allow human access to enjoy and take care of it.

The secret elixir of life. Find an existing wildlife pond, a better option is a naturally occurring one, and borrow a small quantity of "dirty water". The contents of this water will introduce naturally occurring organisms that will populate your pond.

Animals you can expect to see in your pond. The "dirty water" you borrowed will introduce a rich insect population to your pond. You can probably expect to see first pond skaters and and later dragonflies. And then, where there are insects there are insects predators, such as birds, toads and frogs. If for any reason your pond is not attracting the type of wildlife you expect, you can always try to introduce some toads and snails. Snails are also a good addition if you want to keep your water relatively clean and control the mosquito population.

Backyard ponds can be found in a large variety, and we know that wildlife is not the common choice, but if properly executed a wildlife pond can be a magical spot in your backyard.

Garden Calendar For October - What To Do

By Marshall Clewis

In Northern United States and Canada

After a killing frost there will be much clean-up work to do. In addition to collecting fallen leaves, and their transfer to the compost heap, the gardener will need to gather together such trash as Dahlia tops, Corn stalks and the stems and foliage of frost-killed perennials and annuals. Destroy any of this material that is known to harbor soil-borne pests and diseases. Put all the rest onto the compost pile.

The lifting of Summer bulbs that were not dug last month should not be delayed. Tuberous Begonias and Gladioli may be lifted before killing frost, all other kinds immediately following. Prepare areas for planting trees and shrubs and proceed with planting bulbs, except Tulips, as fast they can be obtained. Toward the end of the month, or even earlier in the northern parts of the region, you may plant deciduous trees and shrubs.

Remove garden furniture to its Winter storage quarters. Clean, oil and put away for Winter all tools and implements as their season's usefulness ends. Mound soil around the bases of Roses to provide Winter protection, but don't do this until as late as possible before the ground freezes to a depth that makes the job impracticable to do. Rest Christmas Cacti during this month and the early part of next by withholding water and allowing the soil to become quite dry.

In the South

There is still time to sow Rye Grass lawns. Cuttings of Camellias and other evergreens planted in a mixture of peat moss and sand in a greenhouse or cold frame give good results if taken now. Except in the lower South, where they should be fertilized once more, cease feeding Roses.

Dig roots of Whitloof Chicory, plant them closely together in boxes of sand or sandy soil and place them in a cool cellar or coldframe until they are needed for forcing. Lift Celery and plant it closely together in a coldframe. Water it well and shade it to keep it dark. Protect the frame from severe cold by covering them. Rake leaves from lawns before they mat down, and exclude air and light. At the last mowing cut the grass at a height of two inches, not lower. Mulch the soil around Boxwood and other evergreens with a layer three or four inches thick of compost, well rotted manure, peat moss or similar protective material.

Install guards of small-mesh wire netting around trunks of young trees to prevent rabbits from girdling the bark during winter. Where Amaryllis are grown outdoors October is a good time to lift, separate and replant bulbs that are crowded. It is not necessary to cut back their foliage. Plant late Winter and Spring-flowering bulbs of all kinds.

If dry weather prevails be sure to water well Azaleas, Camellias and other evergreens. Clean off the tops of perennials that are through blooming. Burn the debris if it carries soil-borne diseases or pests, otherwise consign it to the compost heap. This is an excellent time to lift, divide and replant old perennials and to plant new ones. In the deep South sow seeds of hardy annuals, Kinds to sow include Calendulas, Sweet Alyssum, Larkspurs, Lupines, Petunias, Stocks and Snapdragons.

On the West Coast

This is the ideal time to sow new lawns and to recondition old ones. This means grass lawns. Lawns of Dichondra should not be planted until Spring. Spring-flowering bulbs, such as Narcissi, Crocus, Anemones, Ranunculus, Hyacinths, four o'clock, Spanish Irises, Dutch Iris, English Iris, Oxalis and, where they are hardy, Freesias, Watsonias, Lachenalias, Ixias and Babianas, may now be planted. For now, i am planting four o'clock flowers in my garden.

Lift and store for the Winter Summer-flowering bulbs and tubers that go dormant at this season. Here belong Tuberous Begonias, Caladiums and Gladioli. Bulbs of Lilies may be planted this month. Lift, divide and reset perennials. Plant new perennials. Set out young plants of Snapdragons, Pansies, Cineraries and other annuals.

Enhance Your Garden With Teak Outdoor Furniture

By Michelle Reynold

If you are looking for outdoor furniture that is beautiful durable and easy to care for, you should look at purchasing teak garden furniture. There are many advantages to buying furniture made from teak. The qualities of this dense, resilient wood have been known for centuries. Although there are a few things that you need to know about caring for it properly you will find that furniture made from teak is much easier to look after than any other outdoor furniture material on the market.

There are a number of qualities that make teak different from any other wood. It is a hardwood, which makes it more durable but there are certain aspects to teak which make it more desirable than other hard woods. It has a grain which is dense and can repel water, as well as resins which make it more durable as well. It also contains silica, which makes it different than other woods. Silica can help prevent mold and fungus from growing, which can speed up the rotting process.

Most teak is grown in areas such as Burma, Indonesia, Thailand and Laos. Originally, all teak furniture was made from wild trees and this caused problems with deforestation. Now, however, teak plantations have been regulated by government agencies and much of the teak used in furniture comes from these plantations. The one main problem with teak is that it takes in the neighborhood of fifty years to grow and this is part of what makes it so expensive to purchase.

However, the cost is worth it. Teak furniture does not need to be brought inside or covered during wet or stormy weather. Because it is so resistant to moisture it does not need sealing like outdoor furniture made from other woods. As well, it will not rust or deteriorate like furniture made from metal. It is much stronger than furniture made of plastic.

You should expect that your teak garden furniture will age and turn a silver gray color. This is because this is the natural aging process of the wood. There may be natural imperfections in the wood as well, but that is also a natural part of teak wood. However, you should look for imperfections which do not affect the strength of the furniture's structure.

You may see furniture on the market which claims to have been treated with teak oil. Keep in mind that while this can help to make the furniture more durable it is still nowhere near as durable as furniture that is made from real teak. You should know that if you are buying furniture that has been treated with teak oil, it will need to be reapplied on a regular basis in order to keep up the resilience.

Another place to find teak furniture can be from fair trade organizations. This ensures that you are getting ethically harvested woods and that the pieces you are buying are benefiting the communities where they are grown. You want to make sure that you are getting furniture that has not been made using child labor or which has been taken from the wild rather than a plantation.

Teak garden furniture may not be as easy to find as furniture made from other materials. If you take the time to research what you are buying and locate an upscale and ethical source, you can enjoy the beauty of your new furniture and a clear conscience at the same time.
